What is "better" though? Is it what makes me happy? Is it what will guarantee a safe future for me? Is it what makes the world a better place?

Anyway this decision isn't much about what I want to do on a bigger scale, mainly because I have no idea what that is.
I'm just deciding between taking a year off college or not (which may or may not include me coming back at all). How simple this makes it seem, but it is not.

This is from a night where I was considering sleeping in my car because my mom wanted me out of the house.

Fortunately one of my friends helped me out, we stayed up till like 4 and smoked weed while he read me a script he wrote.

21 and yes they would support my year off, though I plan to live as cheaply as possible (possibly on less than $200 a month) by WWOOFing and travelling through it. (if you dont know what that is; you work on a farm for a few hours a day in exchange for food and bed)

Why is it hard? I don't know. I hadn't thought about it until now. I guess the hard part is making the transition. Leaving everything behind to do something else.

What I really want to do during that time is get a feel for such a different lifestyle. I currently really want to live free of all materialism and everything that entails. I don't know if I'll like it because I've never done it, so this is me experimenting.

I'm 100% seriously and unironically considering a monastic life. And this would be me dipping my toes in that life.

Thank you for talking with me I can tell I really need this. Nothing better than bouncing my thoughts off someone else's head for a change.

I'm a little older than you and I can tell you that honestly a year is not that long. If that year is invested in something important I mean. And realizing what you want to do with your life is important.

It doesn't even have to be a whole year. If it's not what you want or you feel overwhelmed you can just go back and go into college or get a job for a while.

There are a lot of options anon. And you still have plenty of time to figure things out.

Slowly saving up money to just travel to cheap places for as long as possible. I sleep in my car, save some money on rent that way. Parking garage near work helps. Another few months and I'll have 30k saved, I think that will be enough to do SE ASIA for a year. Can't wait to fade.

Yes, you are right on everything except having much time because I have less than 2 weeks to decide or else I'll be stuck for another year in university
