Ayy cool, I had a Ninja 300 a couple years ago. It was my first bike and I rode it for one year before selling it and swearing off motorcycles. I rode extremely defensively, always wore full gear from head to toe, and still felt like at any moment my life was going to be stolen by some cunt texting and driving. I had two close calls, both of which were out of my power (someone swerved into oncoming traffic, and someone nearly clobbered me in an intersection when they decided to run the run light AFTER stopping first).

It was a blast, but I'll only offroad now, the randomness of the road is just too much.

Bro, i had an accident yesterday. As i and another car turned right the car in front of me stopped abruptly to make a turn (litrelly 1 second after i straightened the bike) and i hit him. He used no blinkers or anything else.

I actually plan on getting a motorcycle once i move to Arizona from michigan. I never owned a motorcycle before just a small moped for a short while.My question is how easy is it to maintain and what cost bike should I start with as a beginner?

Because while, from a utility perspective, they are gas efficient, they aren't good at moving things like groceries, and, if worst comes to worst, and I find myself homeless again, I will not be able to store things like a change of clothing or be able to protect myself from the elements with one.

a twin would be the best starting point. around the 500-600cc range, just as >>34840097 suggested. below that it's gonna get boring. also keep it at a twin, they're more predictable.

there's also some cool cruisers like the 500cc Honda magna/shadow (get the 80s ones though, they had character) that aren't so bulky if that's your thing. you should know how to work on them though, since people don't always treat them too well.

same goes for a 454 LTD. you can get lucky and pick one up for next to nothing (paid 300 for mine) but expect some work. they're pretty small cruisers with a chopped up ninja engine. it's a strange contrast but really fun since it revs about as high as my gsx while being more comfy for sure.
