I was actually just reading about version histories, I'm not sure what point it started sucking to me, but I think it was sometime in alpha when I had peak fun. I didn't know they reset the version numbers when beta/final release came out, that's how much interest I lost in it.

What was the point at which Minecraft became irredeemably ruined?

I started playing about a month before the Nether was added, when I was 12. IMO, things started going downhill when Hunger was added, but the game was still fun and comfy. I think I even played up until they added Enchanting? I really don't remember. I know I played on like 50 player server with some people I knew from a different site and it was super fun, even with the by-then bloated features.

There's a Minecraft Classic .exe that someone made, but it has it's own server instead of Mojang's.

Do NOT play this shit. It may feel nostalgic, but the only people around anymore are circlejerking autists. If you've ever been on a Discord server, you know exactly what this game's multiplayer is like. There's no building at all, it's just a chat room with blocks.

If you start your own server and try to actually build shit, the roastie bitch they have as an admin will log on, ask you why you're on there alone and will call you a creepy weirdo then proceed to ban you from the game. I loved going onto highly populated servers in 2011. I would go out into the forest wilderness away from all the cities and villages. I would build a small hide out. I would go around the land late at night since I was a NEET and could be awake then. I would steal from unlocked chests and take diamonds, gold, iron etc. I would use these resources to build a comfy mansion in the wilderness. I often would get banned from servers though from looting peoples chests. Kind of liked the idea of being an outcast of society, but having a nice comfy place to retreat to.

You can put land claims in servers where your plot of land is unbreakable. I play on a pretty comfy server that's just pretty much standard survival and I have a 16x16 plot of land with a comfy cabin, feels good

That version was rebuilt to not use Java anymore so it doesn't run like ass. I think it's on the same update cycle as the console version, so it's not as up-to-date as the minecraft.net version, but multiplayer works better.

It's not too hard if you make a 1 hit exp grinder. I was once in this specifically hardcore pvp server, and for the longest time I'd get harassed by a few groups of like 3-4 people. So i made this underground obsidian base, which was on protected land courtesy of a faction mod. The method people usually used was to use tnt cannons off of your propert to bomb open your house, so this is why i did it. I built the base in this cave that had a zombie and skele dungeon within like 30 blocks of eachother, so i used water to direct them above my base, and then I'd drop them like 20 something blocks and have them in a 1x1 chamber type thing that just exposed their feet. They would be 1 hit with a fist and like 10-20 full levels would stack there at a time and i would just take a damage potion and kill them all.

So one time during construction of the grinders it was finished with halfish cobble (i needed to get more obsidian,) they broke in with cannons and used the water shaft to get in.he actually ended up getting stuck in the final stage, so he just had to sit and watch while he creeped closes and closer to a hole. He falls in and can't teleport home because he's in a declared enemy faction (or however that shit worked) So i walk up and hit him once and take all his full enchant gear, potions, and everything else he had on him.

After i got all my shit, i got all my friends to come on and we went around raiding everyone in the entire server (mostly the ones who fucked with us.) The people that knew they couldn't beat and asked for mercy were asked to pay a decent fee or be destroyed. I ended up getting the server shut down because all the majorly powerful players who were the servers main players left out of anger. Feels good.
