Is this a meme or will this actually help me make friends? Have any of you used this website? Experiences?
>tfw you live in the middle of nowhere and the only people who use these sites are natives trying to rob people

Yes I'm very tempted to go to one of these meetups, most of the people attending them seem pretty chill.

Scarborough here. I think there are a lot of robots in Toronto personally speaking...

Hello, I hope I never meet anyone that knows I go on r9k in real life.

I met literally my best friend there last April. He's heavily into philosphy and I'm more stem. And I think including romantic relationships it's the closest connection I've ever made with another person. The kind where you try new stuff together, or just chill all day and it feels like time well spent. So for me it was a great turnout.
Before that I went to a really awkward group meetup (these were monthly), and it would sometimes be good if the banter starts flowing, but sometiems there's awkward af pauses. There's plenty of potential for it to be awkward. An average group could be;
>LGBT whatever outcast (in one of my groups there was a trans and I could honestly not tell what gender they were trying for, super awkward)
>blatant alt righter
>the 45 year old man/woman who tries to act younger
>the perfectly ordinary person where you don't know how to start conversation
>the creepy af guy just there to try get pussy
>the blatant autist
And in my case there was a girl who would always say she was coming, but never did. She looked like she had severe social anxiety, long black hair, pale skin, the plainest clothing and sitting at her computer desk
But it's a fantastic way to practise social skills. You can visit that group, try make your best impression, see the outcome, and if it's bad never see them again. Go for it OP. The country I'm in now doesn't really have it, and I miss it.

Thanks for the write-up mate. You've convinced me to give it a go.
