Water isn't the worst thing you have to worry about OP.
You get any cavities it's either mercury, fluoride, or BPA for your pie-hole. Those sweet sweet toxic chemicals get efficiently absorbed by your gums. Awesome!

drink purified water and get your minerals via supplements. Hard water has some necessary minerals, but depending where you live has a lot of bad stuff. If you live in an older builiding, chances are the pipes that connect your apartment to the water main contain lead. Always filter your water, and a good diet and supplements should give you everything you need.

thanks, pretty solid answer. about what i was looking for.
An activated carbon filter will remove any BPA in the water you are trying to drink, since the high surface-area elemental carbon tends to stick to organic molecules. An activated alumina filter does not remove BPA, but it will remove fluoride. So, the most convenient way for consumers to remove both of these substances from tap water is to use a carbon filter followed by an alumina filter. These filters can be used with glass containers if you're really paranoid about BPA. Like anon said, this might remove some essential trace minerals in the water. If you have a varied diet that is low on convenience foods, this will probably not be an issue.
