What did you want to be when you grew up robots? I wanted to be a writer, maybe a journalist.
Now I just want to be anything other than what I am
You're never going to believe this, but an astronaut.
Then a public defender, then a civil engineer, and now I'm thinking forestry.

Start writing it is never to late friend.
Also start going to /fit/ read the stick and look up scott herman fitness and start getting fit.
Trust me after getting fit my confidence and life boosted a ton.
Also it has never been easier to be a writer with the way you can now upload it to amazon.
Hope this helps friend, we can all make it if we try, might be a bit uncomfortable at first.
Remember self doubt is there to be beaten down like an enemy. Everytime you write a word, everytime you do a rep or a pushup you are beating down that enemy.

You know, I've thought a lot about going into forestry myself. Just being alone with the trees, there's something serene about it

I go hiking a lot, edible mushroom hunting like morel, dryad saddle, oyster, chicken of the woods etc I also metal detect.
You can do it dude!

I've tried writing, a lot. But I'm too much of a cynical asshole to write anything that doesn't just devolve into condescending self-loathing and contrived bullshit. I fucking hate it

Then work on your confidence, get fit like I said.
Read books and get better.
Good thing is dude, you got plenty of time to improve.

I highly doubtful I'll be alone most of the time. I'll probably end up working for a company that grows trees to sell for lumber/paper, or a national park. I've only taken one semester of classes so far, but it seems like a lot of work is done inside on computers.

I'm not even a huge outdoor junkie desu. I picked it because I think it's unlikely to be replaced by automation in my lifetime, the demand is pretty constant (unless wood is somehow made obsolete as a building material, which I doubt, and even then, there's other jobs in forestry), and it doesn't require a ton of social skills or math. But I do like my classes so far.
