>coax cables at least 10x longer than they need to be
i'd rather plug an amp into an actual instrument than a set of headphones.
i would rather have a lava lamp than that audio gear

audiophiles were a mistake

poor quality audio is a mistake
>>34684221
a mistake which $1k headphones won't change
>>34684221
You're right, and there are reasonable steps you can take to do away with it
But at a certain point, you cross a line and become an bootyblast prone audiophile
>>34684221
I download FLACs and wear sennheisers, only to cut off anything above 3khz in the equalizer because high pitched sounds are annoying.
>>34683602
i spent $150 on some shitty desktop PC speakers with subs and my room mates always say it sounds better than the surround sound downstairs.
proper EQ settings and speaker posistion go a long way.
my only issue with these speakers is it needs a bit more mids but if you turn the volume up pretty high it sounds better

Audiophile is a placebo meme. Just buy what works Audiophiles won't be able to tell the difference. They'll talk shit when they find out what kind of set up you have, but you're not the one spending over $5,000 and wasting harddrives on .FLACs :)

A good pair of headphones is definitely worth the money, but by GOOD I mean $100-$200, and which are also NOT a meme brand recommended by a doctor of retarded asshology.
A fancy pre-amp is likely a complete waste, unless you're hooking that pre-amp to an SPDIF or other digital source. (I'm assuming we're talking about hooking these up to a computer.)
Personally I use pic related with my computer's on-board amp. Most of my collection is 320kbps MP3 or FLAC and honestly I don't need to be blown away by bass.

I take you have never experienced the wide open sound stage of a quality open back pair then.
I had a pair of Dt880 and now I'm saving my shekels for a T1 tesla and a Woo-Audio Fireflies amp.

buy a Superlux 681 EVO for $40
buy a dac/amo for $65
you just got about 70% of the performance of that setup for 1/30th of the cost.
>have $10 usb speakers
>a significant portion of my music is YouTube rips
