That's pretty weird unless her work is based on the things outside. Otherwise they might as well have a social disorder. I know plenty of female artists (amateurs) that are eccentric but are well within the realm of normal.

Most artists are fucked up. Women are physically tied to their emotions more than men, so it comes out as emotions rather than the unending vices male artists pick up to dull the pain of a traumatic youth or whatever else fucked their heads up.

I have chronic depersonalisation and I'm prone to depression, that's my only mental health issues really. Could be worse. I think everybody is a bit fucked up to some degree though so I'm hardly unique. I don't think it's possible to exist in contemporary human society and not be a little fucked up by it.

Van Gogh had his ear, Frida Kahlo had her obsession with reproduction rights which had been taken from her in a freak accident, Edvard Munch hallucinated, etc.
Plus you have to be kind of fucked to pursue art as a career since it promises you exactly no money and no respect and you will never be taken seriously.

wrong. my art came as naturally to me as writing. my self harm is because i was abused and the rage against my abuser would have meant cutting her or attacking her every time i self harmed. its a lot more socially acceptable to cut yourself than other people, its all rage. i dont hate myself or anything.
so yeah Not All Artists but at least for me i dont see the correlation aside from maybe its a quiet form of self expression? i didnt have the energy to/couldnt afford to do anything loud like an insturment or a sport.
also that whole troubled artist meme, more women are pursuing art than men and i personally think this is because they can now bc of muh feminisms and men might sense a bit better now how an art career is generally financial suicide.

drawing is a hobby that requires a lot of practice (very little socializing) as such only when one is a already a social outcast or pariah for whatever reason will you find them there.
