Would he be proud or disappointed?

Probably equal parts of both. I don't think Moot ever really "bought in" to what 4chan ultimately became, but I'm sure he's proud that he founded a board that's made such a difference in the world (good and bad), especially as far as the internet's development is concerned.
I think that's why he left. I was always of the mind he should be a little bit more ballsy, write a book, give speeches, go on TV news as an "anonymity expert" or some such, and try to get his brand out there, maybe doing consulting work for social media companies for a hefty fee.
I think that's ultimately why he took the way out he did, taking a 9-5 job at Google that's relatively low risk, low reward. I think that if he were wired slightly differently he really could have built up an impressive cache and following, but in the end, he was just a meek, somewhat shy, nice kid who didn't want any part of the worst parts of his site. He almost reminds me of the quiet kid in class who secretly draws or something like that.

Why did he abandon us

He is planning on something big for us. One day he will return and we will all be saved. Just remember to pray every night and give moment of though to moot before your touch your dick.
