God damn, I haven't watched it in a while, but you just reminded me of how bad the post-Kyoto arc actually is in Kenshin. It's literally like watching episodes that variably seem like sitcoms or poorly-written fanfiction from a 14-year-old after Shishio dies. It's ~30 episodes of absolute unwatchable garbage.
