I like to nightwalk inside Union Station.

The only other people there at night are tourists getting into the city at weird times, so I get to casually exercise while feeling this weird smug feeling for being the only person who "belongs" here.

Guys, my city just switched the streetlights from the comfy orange/yellow glow of incandescent bulbs to the cold, sterile blue LED bulbs. What can I do to regain some of the comfy feelings of previous nightwalks?

I used to have zero fear when walking at night, i would walk straight through groups of sketchy people at 3am if they were in my way and my heart rate didn't change at all. In the southeast quadrant is where most of the crime is, and is where DC gets any negative reputation. Outside of southeast, crime isn't any worse than other major cities. I did almost get mugged once by a group of "misguided youth" but I wasn't being very careful. I was walking along on a deserted street while glued to my phone. So don't do that and everything is fine.

Music helps me go through every day of the week. Each song associate one thing, mostly feelings from video games because vidya is one of the only things I do. I'm currently listening to Interstellar OST. These musics would be perfect with a clear night sky. I used to listen to music and look at the sky with a friend in a field at night with some alcohol, it was perfect.

I survey and research all my places before I break in, drive by, look at maps, look up documents, etc. I bring what I need to get in and get out. I don't usually steal things nor do I need bolt cutters to get into places cause I can just crawl through airshafts, old windows, culverts, conveyors, walls, etc. If you break locks or get caught you run greater risks. I climb a lot so going the extra mile to get past a lock isn't a problem, especially if I have my crew with me.

This is a perfect description. I used to steal a lot of stuff, video games, CDs, movies, books, food, energy drinks etc... It filled the void for a time, until I couldn't do it again, not here at least. Breaking into abandonned stuff is even a better feeling, I love that. Unfortunately people I'm with always pussy out at the last minute. There's an abandonned building, half destroyed, just next to my house, like 100 meters away. Knives are really fucking hard to hold with blood and sweat, pretty hard to pull out of someone too. Not to mention that it takes way more than one stab to bring down a decent sized man pumped with adrenaline.

Years ago I would nightwalk without fear until I made the mistake of not crossing the street when I saw two blacks approaching from further up the block. Managed to make enough noise and hold them at bay until they ran off, but they hit me in my jaw pretty good and it still pops on occasion to this day. Put me off night walks ever since.

Guess that taught me situational awareness. Don't be afraid to put some distance between you and anybody else, and tell them "that's close enough" if they try to get friendly. And that gun will do no good if they get the drop on me and it's still in the holster.

Another time, two guys wanted to "just ask me a question" at 1:30 am near the business district. When I backed off and kept my distance their fake friendly attitude instantly changed to screaming anger; like flicking a light switch. One of them did like a rhinoceros charge at me and instead rammed a glass store window.
