Why is it so hard to stop browsing 4chan?
Because it's the only human interaction you get anymore.

Because it's almost instantaneous feedback on ideas (no matter how positive/negative) each person puts out there.
It's addictive in that sense, whether you're a hermit whose only socialisation comes through this place, or simply somebody who enjoys having others to interact with online in addition to offline.
Also, it has its own unique style of humour that you can really only be found online.
It's relatively anonymous, more so than many sites at least, and less censored as well.
It's always here, there's always somebody who's able to reply to something you write, or even only read it.
Most people here have the potential to influence through this site, much more than they may believe.
You never really know how many people, or who (for better, or worse) are/is reading and/or responding to you and others. In all seriousness, some of the most insightful ideas I've ever encountered, I did so here, on this board, and others, too.
So, in conclusion; it's an addiction of sorts, potentially, that is.
Not everybody who uses this site is as inseparable from it as some are.

this is pretty accurate and i will add it tickles the old hunter/gatherer-quality control itch
tonnes of "new" content all the time in ever-shifting territories and gold just around the corner, or frightening badasses who try to kill you!!
BUT CAN YOU SURVIVE???

It's a casino of sorts.
>refresh the page. See if gold is found. Sometimes it is.
>Pull the lever. See if some money comes out of the machine. Sometimes it does.

pretty good summary
this place can be addicting but there are worse addictions to have. and on balance, i'm not entirely convinced that spending a few hours on this place is less enjoyable or worthwhile than spending a few hours bullshitting with acquaintances at a bar, at least for a certain kind of person .

This.
I wouldn't put this site on a pedestal; there are some unimaginably stupid, ignorant, and downright disgusting people, but through all trash there are some genuinely insightful viewpoints, concepts, opinions, and people here.
4chan filled the void in my life when I was growing up when I didn't have anything to do nor anyone to enjoy time with.
It also reinforced some the of ideas I had conceived about the world and made me realize how shitty everyone else's life, even if all their problems are self-inflicted.
It has it goods and bads, I'm so logically rational now though that I'm emotionless and usually piss off people cause I can't understand their emotionally irrational decisions.
It's made me discover lots of literature, films, manga, anime, comics, videos, experiences, stories, etc. But all they do is remind me how little we are allowed to experience as human beings, and how little people understand the world around them.
