I've had it on my Steam acc for a year already but it was a pain in the ass to play with keyboard and I kept postponing getting a joystick because more important things.

I bought one recently tho and began my first run, it took me 6 tries to beat Taurus Demon but boy it was worth the rage and deep concentration. I haven't experienced that sense of accomplishment from a game in years. I guess it's true that nothing worthwhile is ever easy to achieve.

I pirated at release and it was pretty fun.
I doubt the steam exploit has been patched and I'm Jewish when it comes to paying for software.
Would play if I can pirate again. Maybe I'll look into it.

How is the DLC? Worth it?

Agreed. Most games I've played give frequent doses of instant gratification you didn't do shit to deserve, and while I like that every now and then, being spoonfed becomes boring with time. That's something that stops me from getting back to TW3, I had a lot of fun tricking the monsters to leave their chests/treasures unprotected to loot them without engaging into combat when I was low level, then enjoyed killing them when I was a few lvls behind them, but now killing most things became so easy it's not thrilling anymore. I wonder if it gets better later on.

Backstab fishing was manageable after the 2-3 thousand hours (lol). No but really. Towards the end I was hsrdly getting backstabbed.

Stun looking was countered by poise and if you didn't want poise you had dwgr.

Poise never bothered be in either sense.

I played it more for fun though. I hated when the tried to "balance shit" (minus rof stuff) because it's emphasis isn't supposed to be on the pvp.

I also would wave to the host and run through the level with rof and occult knife and forest hunter is the best covenant so you know what kind of person I am.

it might require more effort than usual, but it isn't a tiresome game
the thing is: the ambient is nice, the gameplay is slow paced enough for you to enjoy the game and while it's "hard" you can settle into a rhythm of slow growth as you play
you get to a bonfire, start marching to the next objective and slowly advance further as you die and go back, settling down in an almost algorithmic play

Yea sure buddy if you stay at the start of the game I guess its comfy. The rest of it is stressful as shit though. Falling off ledges. Zombie things jumping out from wooden barricades and doing flurry spaz attacks. Giant bosses fucking everywhere with that organ music that makes me want to cry. Levels which are completely pitch black where I can fall and die any moment. Spooky stuff and theres skeletons as well. Even the safe zone in Dark souls 1 has that creepy ass long neck motherfucker.

Using a heavy shield turns the game into easy mode, anyone can do it.

They changed it with the monolith update so it's far different than it was when it first opened.

If you need like you suck play gideon or gadget until you get the hang of it. I only play about 4 champs autistically now: Serath, Aurora, Countess, and Lt. Belica . I've gotten used to gap closing on pussies but I don't think I'll ever touch jungling.

Games are faster now and you can surrender at 15 minutes

Let me break this down for people who don't understand
You have two games
They are practically identical, same story, graphics, etc
One has a life meter, the other is insta-kill

Why is the insta-kill one more satisfying??? Because it's harder??????? Okay, I can kinda see the logic there. It's harder to beat so you feel better about beating it, lets take it one step further tho.
Two 3rd person RPGs exactly the same, except Game #2 has random symbols pop up throughout the game telling you to hit certain buttons (like parappa the rapper style)

Why does the increased difficulty of game #2 make it more enjoyable??

Demons souls was best game. I loved how linear it was. Felt like crash bandicoot selecting the worlds. If there's one thing I hate about games nowadays its the trend of making them all open world. What's wrong with a nice little hub and level select? Demons souls hub was comfiest place to be

The difficulty level is honestly THE ONLY POSITIVE THING I've ever heard ANYBODY say about dark souls games. I've never heard anything about a great story, I've never heard anything about it being FUN. Read through this entire thread, practically every post that praises dark souls includes the satisfying/rewarding experience (which is a result of the difficulty level) from beating it. Lets say the difficulty level IS just a meme, why doesn't anybody have anything positive to say about the game other than the sense of satisfaction you get from it?? What makes this game anymore satisfying than angry birds or othello??? I'm totally serious here.

1. The story is really good, and they dont shove it in your face, but it is pretty vague and open to interpertation. See: vaatividya
2. The atmosphere is amazing, and the world is really immersive, the music, the bosses, the enemies, the enviroments, the color palette, everything works so well together.
3. The gameplay feels really good and is fun. All the weapons are satisfying to use and have a sense of weight to them, even the enemy strikes and movement have this sense of weight.
4. The pvp/coop is a major positive for me, bot some people, and it is fairly unique, especialy given how it ties in with the story.
5. The level design is amazing, and the world is like a huge web, which you can traverse in many different routes.
6. The game lets you do what you want and go where you want, there are no quests, no minimap, just you and a world to explore.
7. The variety gives the game a lot of replay value. There are many many weapons and spells, most of which all feel different to eachother, and are satisfying to use and kill shit with.
