>$60,000 in tuition for bachelors
>another $2,000 in books
>$1000 yearly mandatory student health insurance and service fees (essentially paying so students have access to free condoms and tampons)
>not to mention boarding fees
>state-funded despite already generating so much revenue, meaning it's taking taxpayer dollars as well
>billionaires donating millions so they can build new parking garages
>it's purpose is to make you view and process the world just like your professor
>more and more students enrolling, furthering price gouging, devaluing degrees, and making postcollegiate occupations more competitive, making it even more difficult to earn back the the thousands wasted on college
>with the end goal, the very pinnacle of vocational achievement being a college professor who teaches his students how to view and process the world just like him, in a self-perpetuating meme loop, everyone else paying you so you can indoctrinate the youth

I also enjoy the fact that getting a degree is so institutionalized in society that its pretty much required to have a chance at being semi-successful

My school is $7k a year and I get $11.5k from the state and federal government to pay for it. You sound pretty stupid for spending money you don't have.

>tfw live in a country with free higher education
>even get paid for studying
>no losing money on taxes because I don't even have a job
Feels good
>>
>tfw joined a union at 18
>worked my ass off for six years
>now have enough money to buy a house laying around because I'm not autistic enough about my living space to be a homeowner
>will receive a very nice retirement plan at 60, max
>not always work but when there is you cover the costs of not working

Why even go to college? Everyone is so obsessed with higher education they're creating a massive market for young labor workers, even if you go back to college you'd be able to pay it off by working for the first few years in a union. Plus you can earn different levels of education (contractor) that can be paired with business degree to become a foreman. Seriously why even go to college.
>>
>>34535524
only a fucking idiot would pay 60k for their degree

if you are paying out of pocket without any financial aid you are either rich or doing something wrong

and it's not 2k for books, not even over all 4 years, unless you are doing something wrong

The only schools which make money are top tier private schools with fuckhuge endowments. My school is running a deficit - research costs more money than people think

obviously the administrative overhead is bloating in the public education system but they aren't intentionally trying to rip anyone off
>>
>tfw I'm in over 120k debt to study something that I hate

Why did I do this to myself?
>>
>>34535760
120? change your major, desu if you're that far in debt it won't make much of a difference to try again.

The college education industry has a reputation of being "recession-proof". For example, during the last recession, there was an uptick in enrolment numbers as a lot of people decided to ride out the recession by getting another degree.

I think this pattern will break within the next decade.

The next recession will spell the beginning of the end of the college degree meme. Hopefully the college education system can be replaced with more of an apprenticeship system.

>Only put in like 2 hours of work each week not counting doodle/music/anime time in class
>Still all A's
>Don't even have to fucking study for finals and midterms
>Spend rest of time either working or masturbating to porn
>When I get out, I'll be able to apply for the jobs I see that pay 70k a year and only require a college degree and an ability to demonstrate *cough* (lie your fucking ass off because they don't do background checks or ask for references) a stable work history (a job that lasted longer than a year).

The American education system is the problem, not the concept of college and higher education.

access codes bro

My parents have paid for my education for nearly 4 years, I've tanked almost every single subject and I'm terribly afraid of confessing I don't want to go to college anymore.

No, the concept of higher education as a requirement to a career is one of the most pernicious memes to crop up over the past 70-80 years.

I would argue that it's part of the reason why birth rates have declined in first world countries.

College as simply a stepping stone to get a career is certainly problematic, but there really isn't a better alternative I can think of. However, I value college for what I learned and experienced rather than the job it allowed me to get (a job at which I apply none of the skills I learned).

Nope. America sucks. Higher education is the key to success.

In my experience, the only classes that required access codes were for online classes and some random business classes I had to take.

I already would have, but my parents would stop supporting me. My school is also shitty and doesn't offer what I want to study. My GPA is also too low to transfer.

I screwed myself pretty hard.

Pick one.

There is good and bad in college. Yes there is a lot of corruption and yes students are socially forced into it. However, it gives opportunities to people who put the work in. If you buy into the system a bit and play by the rules, you get rewarded. Apply for scholarships and work study positions. Allow professors to recognize you and find internship positions. Get into research projects that interest you and seem applicable to the things you want to see progress in.

Sure some degrees are wastes of time and are designed to take your money. Some degrees will give you genuine good training and experience in a highly technical field. You get what you put in with college.

But yes I sincerely advocate education reform.
>>
>>34536312
That wasn't always the case.

You didn't need a JD to practice law - Abe Lincoln is one famous example of someone who passed the bar with very little formal education. There were countless others.

You also didn't need an Msc in accounting to write your CPA to be an accountant.

College is just an artificial hoop. It's a money making racket.

>other countries having an opinion on America

That whole comic came off as extremely preachy. I'd agree that our military and prison spending should be way lower, but having free college makes it almost mandatory to go there to have any kind of future. That shit's bad enough as it is. Higher learning isn't for everyone. What we need is higher paying low skill jobs, like factories. But no, let's pay half our wages in taxes, regardless if we go to college, just like those nordic countries.
>>
>You didn't need a JD to practice law

I had a JD card when I was 15.
Never went to college.
You mean juvenile delinquent, right?

>Higher education is the key to success.

Wasn't high school supposed to be the key to success 45 years ago? Now it's higher education.

By the time someone is finished their master's degree they would have spent 20 years in school. Is all of that really necessary?
