I don't understand how animals manage to survive and prosper

animals are run on biological mechanics (so are humans),but they don't think existentially. Humans do but they also find purpose between order and chaos. This is how we built up are civilizations. Notice how western and Europe civilization progressed so rapidly? We were unified under protestant Christianity i.e. we were told how to act and have purpose.

The idea that people just scrape by and live rough unforgiving lives is a retarded misconception. Humans have been seeking greater comforts since the beginning of civilization. And those tribes of people who hadn't civilized didn't need to. They had what they needed without extra steps.

Anyway you should consider that maybe you don't know how to manage your life because the modern niche of human survival has you specializing in only one task. There are people everywhere who hypothetically will do a better job than you, so survivalism lost its purpose outside of hobby and bring a crazy hermit like the unabomber.
