Watches a few episodes of the first series back when it came out, never really appealed though, it was just endless card battles that typically ended in "haa! But I have a trap card!" "aaaaahhhh bakana!". Did it ever get better?

It got better in the sense that they actually started following the rules of the game. Duelist Kingdom was absolute cancer for me trying to play with other kids in real life.

the second season had more of an urban, science fiction feel and got more into the ancient egyptian shit

then there were some filler seasons that were so stupid they became entertaining in their own right

the original manga is worth reading though, it doesn't even have anything to do with card games

in highschool me and my friends play yugioh

one day during passing period me and my pal were talking and i had my deck in my hand to show off my new cards i added
he started messing around

i got so mad i swung at him
i was mad, but i barely realized he didn't mean it so i kind of stopped mid-swing
notice all the normies started picking up all my cards
