My cat would go missing for 20 hours sometimes when it was still young. It would get stuck somewhere or hide from something through the night, but she always came back. Gave me some scares, but it always turned out well.

It's quite possible that someone might take him in around the neighborhood if he meows loud enough.

Remember that even though he is used to you, he still has instincts of his own and can probably hunt and has a warm coat.

He can survive for quite some time outside.

Go out and call his name. He might recognize your voice and run to you.

If you haven't, try;

His favourite food. Rustled the biscuit bag, tap the tin, etc.

If he responds to emotions, cry his name quietly. Some animals seek mourners to comfort them.

Close off a room that has an outside door and pump heat into it. Cold animals seek out hotspots.

If he's a boy cat and not neutered he's going to be one horny motherfucker and might be out scouting for poon. They sometimes will pick up the rail of female cats and follow them, or he just decided to go exploring

I would advise you to keep your cat inside when it's getting that cold, OP. All cats of mine (3) which went missing did so during the winter. Last year one of them fell through the fucking ice in our backyard and we had to bury her frozen body.

If there's ice on the water then I'm keeping them inside, I don't care how much they cry and scratch. Just make sure you get a litter box and a compensation for being locked in your house (aka entertainment) for the cat.

I loved her, she was my best friend. She became 22 years old.
She was there from the day i was born until i was 18. She was the nicest cat ever, she never bit me or scratch me.
I cried for 2 whole days from the day we had to put her down. Why is growing old a thing. Fuck you god.
Now I'm 21 and not a day goes by without me missing her.

Don't worry buddy, my cat is an outdoor cat. She comes in most nights but others she won't come back till the morning. I live in an area with a ton of wild foxes too and those things eat cats all the time and I've woken up to their awful fox screams thinking for sure they grabbed my cat and killed it. Every night/morning though, there she is scratching at my door. Cats are really intelligent animals especially the ones that go outside because they get a sense of their home and surroundings. Not to go off on a tangent but that's why all the idiots who keep their cats indoor their whole life get out by accident and wander off like idiots to be eaten, they have zero sense of their surroundings. Your cat is fine dude, I guarantee it.
