Ausfag here, this basically happened to me. Worked at a restaurant doing waiting, cooking, cleaning, dishwashing, stock taking, and pretty much every possible job for 5 months. They said they'd recommend me for paid jobs or even give me one myself, but they never did. Sadly, 5 months experience full time unpaid isn't enough for employers here, even for entry level work. They want at least a year (normally 2-3) and for you to be willing to accept cut down wages while working longer hours.

i'm pretty much fucked as soon as they look at my transcript. ive managed to get a few solid internships from connections, and they gave me really good references, but since im a new grad every company wants my transcript. can't exactly explain it away either... what am i going to say? "ive done poorly because some years id think about killing myself and some years i wouldnt".

I'm working on my dad's shop right now. It's a dead end job since it doesn't count as experience.

I don't like motor vehicles much, and never drove a car in my life, but I'm afraid that I will have to take driving classes (I don't think my father would be a good driving teacher, or that would teach me at all) so I can get a driver's license so I can apply to jobs that require it.

It's been more than a year that I've been applying to a lot of jobs but never ever received a call or a mail-reply from the many places I've sent a CV to, except once, and they never called me again. I remember that my throat was pretty sore that day. Didn't leave a good impression, huh?
