I fought that urge for years because I was on pretty good money. I absolutely fucking hated the job, the people, the working environment and the management, though. I started turning up to work drunk, stoned, or both. I started fucking about, doing hardly any work and really, really pissing everyone off. I'd puke up on shift, do massive farts in the office in front of my superiors and laugh in their face, shit on the toilet seats, go off sick all the time, steal, sabotage equipment and tirelessly promote dissent, discord and general mayhem. I believe you. Absolutely nothing I did on paper ever alleviated my anxiety for job interviews. I no-showed 2 interviews before attending the one for my current job.

Ultimately the only way I could make myself get in the door was by self-medicating. I was on benzos and propranolol. If you anxiety is really crippling you going forward I would recommend it. Worst that can happen is you don't get the job.

I usually get out of it by telling him I have a lot of personal obligations outside of work and I can't bend on them, no matter how aggravating he finds it

although it helps that I specified in my contract that I won't be forced to work more than 48 hours a week without my express permission and the company signed off on it
