I actually enjoy having classes that focus on languages. They force me to study and give me a focus. I'm enjoying japanese so far, it feels really rewarding to distinguish the hiragana in the middle of those moonrunes. It distracts me when I'm fapping and reading my doujins, but that's fine.

Not really, it's pretty obvious that everyone taking it is a weeb to some extent but everyone hides their powerlevel. I took conversational classes at a private language school years ago and they were great. Most of the teachers were Japanese grad students studying English, the classes were small and didn't have cringey weebs, etc. After that I worked closely with Japanese people for a while and learned a lot from them.

I'm working on an actual degree now and figured I'd retake Japanese for easy credit. Holy shit what a mistake. The professor was this ancient Nisei woman who hadn't been to Japan since like the '70s, and the Japanese she taught was this insanely archaic form where the men had to refer to ourselves as "watakushi" and stuff and the textbook was a reprint of one written in the 1950s. I dropped that shit so hard.
