Why does that exclude them based on race? If you agree with and believe the teachings of the religion you are a member of that religion. Just cause loads of stupid people never look at the religion in depth doesn't mean nobody from a certain race can be a member of said religion.

Besides, Buddhism is a projection of the gook mind, how it perceives the world and how it engages the the world around it. Just like how Islam is a projection of the violent Arab mindset and Christianity is a projection of the strict authoritarian white mindset. Put each grope on a different planet with no knowledge of their current religion and they'd develop a similar one to it as it is now

Besides, most religion is taught since birth which is the main reason why people believe in it to begin with. A 30 something year old white guy isn't going to believe in the metaphysics of it just because he agrees with the general philosophy of it
