Dark, edgy music was mainstream. Nu metal, goth rock, even alt rock in general could be a bit more hardcore than what we get these days.

It was cheesy as hell, I even knew it at the time, but it was still really enjoyable in a way that's hard to explain.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JWW8KK8kd1I

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5hCE51oBszQ (1999, but close enough)

Upon my 5th birthday, I remember telling my sister I was afraid of turning 5 because maybe I wouldn't like the Power Rangers anymore, like magically. I think I miss that aspect of the most important things in my life being fucking tv shows and toys and card games and whatnot. When walking back home now I not only think about animu but also about what will I cook today, how will I manage my times, how much of an idiot did I look that day in public, will I pass that uni test, did I forget anything important. In the early 2000s I used to come home and stay hours drawing dinosaurs and DBZ characters in MS paint.

I remember being a depressed as fuck teenager and dropping out of school in early 2001 because I was addicted to Ultima Online and it was fun as fuck. Playing counter strike and tfc. SNES roms with Seiken densetsu 3, terranigma, neogeo roms. Dark age of camelot, eating whatever the fuck I wanted. Ragnarok Online, staying up all night. Phantasy star online, Neverwinter Nights. Finding 4chan in late 03 while looking for ragnarok online porn and then acting like a retard on it and then acting like a retard on other websites. Masturbating to hentai shit and cosplay stuff and your online character sprites. Hating those days at the time but feeling like they would never end. Going to stupid websites and being depressed, walking outside, sunrise, sunset. I realize I'm typing like a retard but who cares. Those days are gone. All I do now is spend money I don't have and take prescription oxy to forget and keep moving to avoid killing myself.

Golden age? It was cancer then, it's cancer now.

...But it's our cancer.

As for the question at hand: yeah, hope. Or at least the lack of worrying about having a hand in what's going on in the world. I'm sure some Illuminati fearing poster's going to say otherwise, but I miss not having to worry about having a say in what goes on. It was nice just kind of accepting things as they come and just hoping for the best.

Oh, and AIM and YIM. Spent more hours on there than I can remember. It was weird. I actually kind of love chat rooms, but they seem to have died recently. *shrug* I functioned better online than in person back then. Kinda glad that I got over that.

Of course I miss some stuff, but that's just nostalgia. Your picture for example makes me feel a deep nostalgia for the old internet, old computers, being younger and inexperienced with technology, etc.

But the reality is, that shit actually sucked. If I went back in time and had to deal with dial-up internet again and constantly fuck my computer up with viruses from lack of internet knowledge, I would fucking kill myself.

As soon as I take off my nostalgia goggles I realize the early 2000s were pretty shitty compared to my life now.

How carefree and communal the internet was.

Techno and electronica still being drug-fueled and tribal/underground, as opposed to pop normal people pretend to enjoy and take selfies to.

Society was still white enough to be carefree and silly, or autistic and edgy, without trying to take itself too seriously and act hard.

We still had the promise of a cool, cyber future, as opposed to the ugly, corporate end of cyberpunk, we have today (your Apple iMPLANT has decided this is the optimal hour for you to wake up, based on your googleNET search history)

Something I like about the past in general is that you could generally be more optimistic about technology and the future.

I'd say we had already lost that by the 2000s though. Now we basically live with space age tech and we see how jaded it is.

Definitely true, senpai. Like the other anon said, it was cancer then, but it was our cancer. 4chan has just been reposts of reposts of reposts of reposts since then, newfags coming in and reposting as the oldfags leave, and in the end, we're left with a funhouse mirror version of the culture that used to be.

> The entire internet is a homogeneous mainstream slurry now.
This is what I miss the most about the early 2000s. I hate that reddit, social media, and YouTube define the majority of the internet now. I miss angelfire and geocities and homestead creating new and unique (if not rubbish) websites. Websites felt fresh and exciting, and most importantly, genuine. There wasn't a competition to be the next website to go "viral" so you can monetise your popularity... Now every website feels shallow and like it has an angle or a "shtick" to try and stick out.

I think that existed in v1.4 and was fixed in v1.5, but most people would still play v1.4

Custom games were the best. So many creative maps... Resident Evil: Escape Raccoon City, Starship Troopers: Survival, Gladiator Arena.... there was this one, I can't remember the name of, but I think it was called Murder House or something.

One person was a murderer and the rest were civilians, but you had to figure out who the murderer was.

Furry porn being 80% female pussy-focused art, the females that existed not being men with tits/dick or gay garbage. Hardiman was still alive and I had hope.

Women, homosexuals, and normals couldn't use the internet and thus could not invade introverted male spaces (IRQ conflicts and desktop computers were hard). Smart phones and big bang theory opening the door to these cancerous locusts in the digital space.

Video games catered to the hardcore with things like Everquest, the entire MMO genre was pussified because the demographic is now normal people with jobs. The thrill of losing months worth of gear to wiping at the bottom of a dungeon and not respawning with it was amazing. You had to beg rival guilds to bail you out, or pay someone a ton of money to summon your corpse. Every corner turned was dangerous and the dopamine was unreal. You could lose yourself in those worlds, not anymore though.

Video games in general didn't cater to progressive types, they was no narrative. You could kill kids, deal with adult themes, and have games that didn't appeal for the same fag/women/weak male demographic.

Anime was actually putting out classics instead of Fujo shit/female MC slice of life. Budgets were there, the CG shit hadn't gotten bad.

4chan had absolutely no niggers, homosexuals, or women (until 2007 when the chanology/BBT bullshit made us a target), it was great. Now you go to /b/ it's full of gay/trap propaganda, facebook threads, /soc/ attention whoring, dick rating, etc. The entire 4chan community is full of tryhards and irrelevant faggots now, there isn't much good content worth looking at. Loli was still a big part of the community.

I had hope, the world wasn't full of antifa clowns and the anti-white male propaganda was exponentially lower. Now Generation Z is full of feminized faggots because they are drugging them and destroying them with propaganda during their childhood. My only solace is that these queers will all kill themselves before 40.

Younger years

Mid years

6th grade

I didn't get my first video game, (crash bandicoot team racing) until third grade and I'm glad they waited that late. Also they limited computer and video game use to one hour so I didn't waste my day.

I don't live in the past, my early 20's are fun in a new way.

IMO there's just something about the design of 2000s computers that just catches my eye every time. It's not flashy or excessive or anything. It's simplistic, down to earth. Why do normies have to ruin everything

It's like it's not even a passive thing that normies just sort of do naturally over time. They actively and deliberately try to ruin everything.
>>
perhaps my only regret in life is that I'm too Yong and was too isolated to take part in the emergent internet landscape of the early 2000's

I look back now and see relics. Those decade old stick figure animations from CS, a time when words like " pwn" and "uber" where considered acceptable and the whole online gaming scene was first comming together.

I wish I'd been one of those guys who dragged a heavy-ass tower across town for makeshift lan parties, I wish I had memories of warcraft 3, NWN online or even the early days of TF2.

I played around with Gmod a few months back. Running around jailbreak and rp servers came just close enough that I found it amazing

Some of you were, sure.

The real difference was that one had to be something of a nerd to be here, on the internet, in the 90s and to some degree into the early 2000s.

Even minimal effort and required knowledge is an anathma to normalfags. If you were interacting with anyone on the internet you knew that they were at least a little bit like you.

Now there is no real social stigma against spending all fucking day on the computer, and everything has been dumbed down so that even a small child can easily use it.

So now I have to put up with SJW tumblrinas that spend all day on social media leaking out onto the rest of the internet and even real life occasionally.
