Do beards grow indefinitely?
no, the hairs eventually get too brittle and fall off on their own, same with hair, the length is different for different people, although some people have rare mutations where their beards/hair can be like meters long before reaching their maximum

No, just like the hair on your head, facial hair follices go through a growing phase and a resting phase. Once the growing phase ends, the strand will remain the same length for a while, then it will fall off naturally and it will enter the resting phase. Once the growing phase begins again, the strand will be tapered at the end. For the hair on your head, the growing phase is approximately 5 years, but varies between individuals, and since your hair grows approximately 15cm per year, most people can't have hair that is longer than about 75cm, or two and a half foot, regardless of how long they try to grow their hair out.
Your facial hair and your pubic hair are of course different from the hair on your head and have much shorter growing phases. While androgens (in particular DHT) shut down the hair follicles on your head, they increase the growth of facial, pubic and body hair. People who have dreadlocks and similar types of hairstyles cheat the system by having the old hair weaved into new hair, the same can of course be done with your beard.

Interesting
I stopped shaving 2 years ago and my beard seems to have reached its terminal length then
It's about 10cm long
I only trim the moustache because it gets in the food otherwise
Shaving is a weird fashion in my opinion
A daily task serving no useful purpose whatsoever in any way
