They are in some ways but not in others.

They go fucking crazy when they spot a piece of hair not on someone's head, and they're obsessed with showers and soaps, but like I said washing hands is done only after taking a shit, and even then they barely wash them well.

There is a preoccupation with cleanliness. I never noticed it until I went abroad for a while. I think it comes from our protestant background. We also are very time conscious and ridiculous work ethic. I prefer this over being more chill though. I guess it means I'm thoroughly indoctrinated but I'd rather be an hour early than a minute late. Even professional think nothing of 5 or 10 minutes late in South America.

There's two different kinds of cleanliness though. There's the traditional good kind and then the crippled kind seen in children of helicopter parents. I do appreciate a mopped floor but my niece came over to my place and wanted water. I wondered why she had trouble until I realized she meant bottled water. The idea of tap water, from a well no less, was absolutely horrifying. That's when it gets pathological. If anything she should be grossed out by bottled water. My aquifer is good, bottled water is the same shit that went down the toilet, minus the actual shit.
