Naruto is a gateway anime of the worst kind. It's a bad series, a clusterfuck of story and characterization that isn't very well done by any aspect, but which attempts to compensate for its weaknesses by adding in excessive shipping faggotry and DARKNESS. Naruto is basically THE series to attract the most hated anime fanbase known to /a/, which is why, regardless of individual opinions, it is the responsibility of every anon to troII the fuck out of this show and everyone who likes it, and ensure that no Naruto threads ever encourage the newfriends to show their faces here.

For comfy first time anime ppl you should watch something thats been adapted to more secular taste. Pokemon, digimon, dragonballz, sailor moon, cardcaptors, yugioh, to name a few. Those are kinda old though. I think naruto counts too, they changed a few things.

Konosuba is good too, but it's much more of a comedy than the rest

Spice and Wolf is similar to Maoyuu, might be more comfy
Outbreak Company, bit on the wish fulfillment side
xxxHOLiC is another extraordinary show in the mood it sets, though some of the characters were annoying
Fukigen na Mononokean is pretty comfy, has a bit of a shoujo/josei vibe, but nothing unbearable
