I always found it was better to use books AFTER you learn the basics. Nothing beats pure hands on practice. The books, in my experience, is for solidifying what you already know, and then expanding more.
Learn the basics just using google or youtube tutorials. Once you feel you have a little bit of a handle on things, then start looking for books. Just google "best book for learning XYZ" and then check which ones have the best amazon reviews.
