I wore NB in middle school. Kids made fun of me asking if the "N" on the side meant "Nike" when Nike had the swoosh. I never new about NB until my parents bought them for be because "They look just like Nike but I can afford them". Did I grow up on the cusp of a NB uprising?

I usually go for dark greyscale as well but I keep my shoes dark too, although almost never black, mostly stick with greys for sneakers and dark leather for boots. But I can definitely respect the white sneaker look if you can pull it off.

It's pretty much this. It's sad too since my company has a pretty young engineering workforce, and some of the guys don't look too bad, and almost no one is overweight.
