but you don't understand, it's sooooooooooooooo bad now. here let me give you a helpful info graphic
>>
Because it's populated by the soup vegetables who post in here, the 12 year olds who find /b/ cutting edge, the /pol/ crowd - whor'e hard as nails online but jump at their own shadows in 3D and the 50+ year olds who want to share porn pics somewhere that won't ask them for a CC. Every other bord is just these same subhumans reposting memes and getting to bait what the think are serious users... Who in turn are trying to bait them.

It's hard to imagine a more concentrated collection of losers.

There is a certain irony in the fact that the thing which attracts many people to 4Chins also prevents it from being of long term appeal.

All forums need moderation.

I assume you came here in 2010-2012 or so for the sake of argument.
Lots of people from the mid-2000s think 4chan was horrible then. They probably think 4chan is even more horrible now. You probably would have thought it was good though. It's all relative. 4chan is basically alive. It's a giant hivemind, changing and growing as it gets older.
Just accept that 4chan changes. Fondly remember the older days, and make new memories now.
>>
Understaffed and overwhelmed moderation. The number of mods and jannies needs to be doubled since the 4chan userbase has also doubled in the last decade.

I came in 2006. What was exciting about 4chan was how close and small the community was at the time. There were a lot more content creators here. Fresh memes everyday. Nobody took things too seriously. The edginess was a joke in of itself. Mod team was engaged with the community and played pranks. We brigade other forums with dumb shit.

It was fun. Then 2008-09 hit - 4chan was everywhere in the news and things went down hill from there. Majority of content creators left due to how toxic everything became. The community went from mocking outsiders to mocking each other. The racism and sexism went from being jokes to militant beliefs. And now, as the alt-right streams into this site, theres rarely any new content and just constant reposts of bait threads that attempt to trigger political and ideological hatred.

The jokes and fun are gone.

Is this paralell to the ageing of an internet identity trough time? Are the anons neurons, the posts the ephemeral synapsis, and the newfags the new fresh neurons result from the mitosys?

Is this hive mind self conscious?
>>
>>34274006
Beat me too it.

I browse maybe once every 2-3 months now.

Fucking phoneposters and /pol/ have turned 4chan into an autistic shithole.
>>
>>34274749
this isn't a "old generation hates the new generation because they can't keep up" thing. The internet has genuinely gotten more toxic, hateful, and humorless ever since mobile phones allowed the majority to get online easier.
The overall IQ of the internet has seriously dipped in the last decade.
>>
Phones did it. Sitting down in front of a big beige CRT monitor is nerdy as fuck. But now that phones and laptops are fashion accessory (and a commodity) and expression online has been sublimated into status signals and expressions of social success.

Rather than being a separate place inhabited by people behind a collective beige CRT, the internet has been integrated into the general and very broad social fabric. It's not at 100% saturation, but it's close. (This saturation, by the way, is driven by companies who want to monitor and monetize this integration)

So, 4chan sees the spillover from that, enabled by the aggressive proliferation of its shared jokes. That's how the internet discovered 4chan and how most of it sees 4chan. Also, I refuse to use the word meme because I don't even fucking know what a meme is anymore.

God seeing that graph makes everything absolutely crystal clear. Thanks for your post anon.

I swear I read another post a couple days ago with an elaborate vegetable metaphor that specifically mentioned soup. Same anon? In any case, I agree with you.
