I watched it alot as a kid, I liked the songs.

Yes it was pretty good. I watch it still every now and again.

It's a masterpiece. It was done during the time period when Don Bluth was an animator for Disney. It also had the unintended consequence of spawning furries.

It stole a lot of animation from other disney movies like snow white and beauty and the beast due to time constraints. The story's original enough and the narrative is perhaps the most classical thing about it. I enjoyed it as a kid.
