What do you do to keep yourself preoccupied with living?

The things that keep you from becoming a mass murdering school shooter or suiciding in your room.

For me its skateboarding. It makes me feel free to put on my Cons or Vans grab one of my boards and shred down some hills and streets not giving a fuck. It makes me imagine like im riding away from all the pain in my life.
>>
>>34167159

How long have you been skateboarding ? When did you start ? Advice for old(20 something) beginners ?
>>
mountain biking during the day, night walks at night

i am also a fan of converse, OP

>>
>>34168039
Lol converse makes skate shoes and sponsors skaters
>>
>>34168039
i blame supreme skate team
>>
>>34168510
>he's wearing a Chuck Taylor's
Those aren't skate shoes. And just because they sponsor people doesn't mean their shoes aren't shit. Go to any skatepark and you will hardly ever find anyone wearing a converse shoe. The only people that wear converses to skateboard are posers and beginners. Everyone wears either Nikes or Adidas.
>>
Mine is music. I played around with it when I was little but I didn't really expect anything from it. I joined choir but dropped out cause it wasn't fun much. I would've just gone home everyday and eventually kill myself but a friend said that I should play piano for the jazz band. I joined the next year, and then joined the concert band the next semester. I didn't think I'd love it so much and I'm glad that I found it.
>>
>>34168628
Youre a real fucking dumbass. Majoritybof skateparks i go to I see vans so what if i rock cons too dipshit
>>
>>34167521
how long have you been playing?
I do the same for 5 months now, wanting to join a band cause just playing on my own is getting boring
>>
Music, mostly guitar and singing. Really cant go more than couple of days without playing. Drinking by myself and playing Elliott Smith is like meditation to me at this point, feels wrong when i dont do it. Drinking is actually the less important part, but it sets the mood just perfectly
>>
reading
hiking/nature walks
drives
>>
>>34168039
>>34169503

Most shoes are ok if you are just cruising around. But if you're doing tricks then converse probably isn't the best shoe type.
>>
>>34169503
That's because you skate with posers. Vans are even shittier. Do some kick flips with vans for 2 days and tell me how big the hole in your shoe is.
>>

>mfw i still dress like the supreme kids

There are pro skaters that exclusively wear chucks eventho they could use cons
>>
I also like to skate. Down hills with my longboard, I just use a pair of old nikes to skate in. Curving up wide roads is my jam.
I do a bit of drawing, but nothing post worthy.
>>
>>34170919
Ok im not trying to argue. What shoe to you suggest I use. Is cruise mostly in my cons and then do tricks and learning with my vans. My vans are wrecked to hell but I keep patching them up
>>
>>34167159
i go to church every sunday despite holding athiestic views. I do not pray or anything. Just sit and listen.
>>
Not really a "hobby" because it takes so little time, like 5hrs a week but i guess you could call lifting a hobby.

Its pretty addicting to see the progress
>>
>>34171117
guess i was wrong lol
>>
>>34167159
I go for runs, read books, play shitty guitar
>>
most shoes are "fine" for skating, but they get tore up within like 1 sessions of actual tricks.

any shoe if fine if you're just pushing around the board.

pros can ride any shoes because they're probably all free anyways.
>>
>>34171151
Buy a fucking suede shoe.
>>
>>34171169
how much can you bench, anon?
>>
>>34171270
shoe goo exists faggot
>>
>>34171117
Skate a pair of Chuck's and tell me how many days until you have to buy a new pair. It will be less than two weeks.

A good shoe has longevity. That's why chucks and vans are shit. They are made out of canvas and get destroyed by skateboarding.

Longboarding is my main form of transportation. You discover so many new roads and paths that you never would've even considered if you were in a car. It's a great workout, and when I put my headphones in, it feels exactly like OP described. Like I'm skating away from all my problems. I would highly recommend it, anon. I've been here since 2013. I know exactly where I am. That doesn't make fat people any less disgusting. I'm a robot, I hate myself, but I refuse to take the route of NEEThood obesity. I connect more with nature than I do with people. Deciding to get into boarding was one of the best decisions I've ever made.

I write a lot, short stories, fan fiction, excerpts of novels I'll never finish. Feels good to dive into a world separated from the pain of real life, where I can be and do anything I can imagine. I just wish I could focus in on one idea and maybe I could make something of it, maybe I'm so disillusioned with reality that I have to keep creating new worlds to stop remembering how shit my real life is.

Also I'd love to get into music production, I play piano pretty well but the skill wall is so high...

I love gardening. I raise cacti and succulents and love them as if they were my children.

Winter is a bad time of year for my succulents so the one in the pic is leaning, but these guys have been around for nearly 3 years and have been pretty happy. Maybe I'm a lunatic for talking to them and loving them so much but fuck me, it keeps me from going over the edge.

First. Worry about size and weight.

If you're over 5 8 in height. Get a 8" of you're lower than 5 8 get a 7.5" board.

Now about the weight. Are you going to be doing tricks or just to cruise ?

Next. Google good brands. I'd say not to waste more than 120.

Picture related was my first board and I loved it nly problem was that it's a 7.5 I needed a 8

Cactuses, of all things? Why not look after some of the more needier variety of plants, as well? Or maybe even a low maintenance pet like an arachnid of some kind?

I really want to learn the electric guitar because I love listening to guitar solos. I don't have too much money so can anyone tell me if a "Squire Standard Strategy" is a good choice for a beginner? From what I can tell its a 1:1 replica of a normal strat but with lower quality components

Yeah a Squier strat is fine.

Key points for buying any type of strat:

- You want it to be alder wood body
- You will want at least one pickup to be a humbucker. A humbucker is a dual coil pickup that reduces hum when you distort the guitar. For example, the attached as a humbucker (dual coil) near the bridge and two single coil pickups near the neck.

Make sense?

I wouldn't buy new. Go on Kijiji. You can probably find a good Mexican strat for a cheap price. People are always buying/selling guitars.

If it doesn't play well when you buy it, take it to a guitar store and pay them $20-50 to set it up for you (go over it and tweak/adjust it).

is it just me or has the standard for being pro dropped significantly. i mean mike mo iirc went pro with his fully flared part then sean pablo goes pro and i cant name one standout trick from him ever.

chucks, overly cuffed dickies and tucked in tees is a trend that needs to fucking die. been skating on and off since 04 and caught the tail end of the baggy pants era, to skinny jeans, the fully flared effect and now its every kid in dickies doing wallies listening to bauhaus thinking theyre SO DIFFERENT.

half cabs were my go to shoes for a long long time, recently been trying out the 112s and crocketts.

>>34173948

its 2017 mate 7.5 is a fucking toothpick, 8 is a good all around size. 8.5 or bigger is what i go for. shoe size and height may play somewhat of a role in sizes but telling someone under 5'8 to go 7.5 is dumb.

If you have a local shop, check it out, they are usually stocked year-round with seeds and plants that thrive in that season. If you're shit out of luck on that end, just get them online. It's extremely important to know what zone you live in and what seeds can be shipped to you, so do a little googling before you get started to figure out what plants are right for where you live and your skill level.

I recommend succulents for beginners because they're extremely low-maintenance, almost impossible to kill and there's one for pretty much every environment. Go with whatever you'll actually want to care for.
