This thread is for people that have graduated university but the ride still hasn't ended. Share your stories.
Here's me:
>graduate with a degree in Economics
>have history of summer restaurant work
>be a part of various finance related clubs
>do an internship with a financial research firm
>get turned down for every grad program I applied to in my final year
>uni ends, now desperate for a job
>apply for entry level banking jobs just from online ads
>be in regular contact with my university career advice centre who keep telling me that my CV is fine
>still no one fucking calls me
'Getting a job' is such a foreign concept to me. I just don't understand it.
I keep hearing about other people who 'oh just got a job with E&Y' or 'moved cities to be with their boyfriend and decided to work at X.' I just don't fucking get how that even works. How do you 'decide' to work somewhere? How do you even get a job? Why can't I get a job?

there are literally no jobs in stem unless you have connections or graduated top 10%
uni intakes are not tailored to job demand anymore. far more people are able to study a field than the field can employ

be in the top 10% of your cohort, or have family friends in the field who can employ you
if you cant do one of these you wont be working in that field. You should change to something more in demand before you end up 50k in debt and unemployable with 4 years gone

I'm in Australia and my uni does a 7 point GPA system so I don't really know how it converts to a 4 point system. My GPA is average though, I fucked up and failed an entire semesters worth of subjects because of depression. Taking into account those marks, my GPA is better than it should be, but it really doesn't matter. Like no job I've applied for since I've graduated has asked for my GPA, let alone my transcript.

I honestly wish I had done engineering instead. If I could do it all again that's what I would do. At least Economics isn't Arts.

Similar story here man, I graduated w a degree in Econ in December 2013. Went back to school for a second degree nursing program. Now in a grad program for anesthesia. Quite happy. Wish I hadn't fallen for the Econ meme but it is what it is. I wish you luck, amigo

getting a job was easy for me but i hate post-college life.
not like college was so good or anything, but it was really easy, little work, lots of free time, didn't have to follow the same schedule every day, could skip classes easily, could have a schedule where i could sleep in at least twice a week.
and the fucking breaks. nothing in life will ever be as good as the long winter and summer breaks during college.
even if college sucks it's still all downhill afterward.
