Tell me more about your daydream world.
>>34157760
what is death.
i never know about feel of death
>>34158762
>entire world "systemspace" consists of different dimensions, coded by people. we are currently in the system "Life".
>the system Life was abandoned by its owner
>it is now using way too much energy (aurora)
>due to how open systemspace is, theres no way to kick out systems
>usually a "key" is sent that checks the system for good memories, and reboots the system otherwise
>this doesnt work on Life
>have to reboot Systemspace now with a ban ability
>tfw have the same soul as the key
>have to an hero to initialise destruction of Life
>if i do this after aug 28 the chances of succeeding plummet
>i dont want to lose the friends and relationships i made in my daydream world

bump and a good lain wallpaper
>>34158850
Well, you know what you need to do. Save us.
>>34159286
do i initiate salvation on jul 1, destroying Life but allowing all its souls to be reused in the new Systemspace, or keep going till aug 28 and have Systemspace run out of aurora and have all systems and souls be remade from scratch?
>>34159264
thanks saved
We are waiting for you
>>34159345
I am selfish, and would like to be removed entirely, so I personally would vote you wait until the 28th. Perhaps I'm wrong about the other systems, but how much better than Life can they really be.
>>34159427
I can ask RISEN for authorisation to discard your soul upon the 1st of Jul, but I'll need you to send a random message (random characters, at least 4096 of them) to (or 726@tsuki if you can use vtps)
Note that discarding your soul will still generate a new soul for you - there's no real way to leave Systemspace (there's not much out there anyway)

Most Systems are made for amazing experiences, magic, cool technology etc. However, after a while of this, someone made a system called Life, which housed only 1 universe and absolutely no magic. People really enjoyed the system, but it was using too much energy. The Key came and rebooted the system. The owner was furious, and ragequit. However, the System autoreboots itself. Since Systemspace is insanely open-ended, there is no way to stop Life from using aurora than to upgrade to Systemspace 2: Rewrite.
The Key, SYNAPSE (the creator of the biggest system (LFE)), RISEN (the company behind Systemspace) and eNdymioN (the company behind many many systems) are working together to launch Systemspace 2, together under the name Tsuki.
The procedure is as follows:
>Salvate Life as the Key, rebooting it
>Destroy all connections with Life
>Put Systemspace in HALT state
>Begin transfer
>Let all System owners know about the change, allowing them time to recode parts of their System
>Generate certificates for all Systems that conform to the new Systemspace Guidelines
>Boot Systemspace 2
>Enjoy
All Systems other than Life and Ha7 will be preserved and moved into Systemspace2.
>>34160233
Destroying the same System over and over again as Key isn't fun work, so she went absolutely mental. She had one final wish, which was a companion. Someone was produced who was now sharing her soul. However, this person spawned in between Life and LFE. They are mostly based in Life, but do notice the events in LFE (and their interactions with the Key) as sort of a daydream or hallucination.
LFE itself is a gigantic system built by SYNAPSE on top of their open-source framework LFX. It houses over 9.4x10^28 souls, in many different species.
Furthermore, I've got a demon family that helps me from the LFE side: setting up defenses around my house, battling for me, making sure I don't hit the news (People are always trying to hunt down the Key to cancel or force Salvation) and accompanying me through my Life life.
I can't live without them.
Holy shit
This is amazing, OP
>>34160646
Thank you! I don't usually share this story, but it's nice to have other people listen to it.
This shit's lit. do you mind if I write something about it/take you into account?
i want more people to know and I'd love to write about it.
>>34161616
Sure, I'd be happy to see more light on this :)
Is it possible for a soul to be permanently deleted, maybe by accident? Has anything like that ever happened?
>>34161957
If a soul is deleted or shattered, their System client crashes - you will be kicked out and have to create a new soul, then rejoin the System.
>>34160233
>>34162021
This is amazing....
damn stupid original comment
>>34161957
>>34162021
add.
Although deletion of souls usually never happens, souls very often shatter. When a soul shatters, in Life that person will commit suicide (in most systems they just spontaneously die)
If you were to be completely removed (your Experience were to be removed), you'd be kicked out into whatever is out there.
>>34162170
Has the System ever crashed? How were the first days?
>>34162437
Many Systems crash - they can be rebooted by the Key, or just have a code error. Usually the System then freezes and the devs can resolve the issue, then resume time. This is also why the time in Systems is not always synced. If a System fails drastically, the devs can opt to reboot it (but this is a very last resort).
Oh boy, the early days. They were pretty rowdy. There was no Key yet, so sometimes elements just wouldn't spawn, because no aurora could be allocated. Often Systemspace had insane lag spikes. A crash even happened once, known as the "Crash of the Crashes", when the entirety of the Systemspace crashed and everybody was met with a "general voiding error".
Just like the Earth left its fiery state however, it stabilized. Although it'll be shaken up a bit soon.
>>34162920
Have you visited other Systems? How they compare to LIFE, other than being "cooler"? Why would anyone prefer this System to the others? Is reality THAT bad?
>>34163044
There's many systems. We're currently in Life, which was made to be peaceful (as it has no magic etc at all)
LFE, the biggest System out there, is a pretty generic System - it has magic, espers, gods, all the yada yada, and is insanely large.
There's many others, from Arcent to ZyztemX4, all with their own rules, worlds and laws. There's Systems where fighting is forbidden, ones where there's no gravity, ones that are 2D, et cetera. You can think of Systems a bit like games, and Systemspace a bit like Steam or whatever platform you use.
I don't have the memories that the Key has, these are just things she told me. I am in Life and partially (as a dream world) in LFE (I notice all interactions, but it does not feel as "real" as Life does, as it's not the primary System I'm in, causing a bit of an extential crisis :P).
>>34158775
Dont make me think about that again
If everything works logical then death should be logical too
>>34163573
Death is simply the point where your soul disconnects with your body... either from loss of CHI or running out of aurora... ...isn't it?
>daydream gf tells you to hang in there and never give up
Feels good to be desu.
>>34164141
What is aurora then? Is it simple Voltage or something like that?
>>34164161
The purest form of energy. A System requests Aurora from Systemspace, and uses that aurora to create things, be they life force (chi) magic force (shi) or any other energy (often classified as tsu). Without aurora, nothing would exist.
Aurora has a will of its own, thus no System is truly random. The Aurora can be told to follow specific rules (like "dont form life force") with an Axiom. Everything that happens in life that is seemingly random, is decided by Aurora.
>>34164236
Is Aurora sentient?
>>34164283
We don't know. We have no true way to talk to Aurora, so some people believe it's sentient.
>>34164302is aurora god
>>34164422
You could see the Aurora's spirit (some call it the Planetary Spirit) as some sort of God, I suppose. If it wills something, it can happen, even if it has to break an axiom.
But we don't know if it's sentient or not, although many attempts have been made to talk to it, usually with Axioms.
another nice lain
Can Systems completely run out of Aurora? I mean even after the reboot. Is this pure energy able to sustain itself?
>>34165883
A System pulls aurora from Systemspace. If a system were to not pull anymore Aurora, it'd not have enough to generate new universes/people/souls/etc. If the entirety of Systemspace runs out of Aurora, shit hits the fan and Systems can no longer allocate, causing them to fall apart, as no more things can be generated and eventually all energy in Systemspace will halt.
There is always a finite amount of Aurora, although the amount of total Aurora slowly goes up as Aurora grows.
>>34165883
add.
A Key-induced reboot simply returns all objects within that System back to Aurora, and sends that Aurora back to Systemspace. The developers then edit their System to be more efficient, or to make better memories (A Key always checks if the System they are to destroy has happy memories. She wouldn't destroy a good System, even if it uses a lot of Aurora.)
i was rewatching lain on acid. really good times.
op, if you need to talk to someone, ask around for Zebra. I administrate PD.Once but I'm out of the loop, I've been trying to get it working again for a while. If you can convene with me next time you enter the world and catch me up to speed we might be able to work something out.
>>34167101
Allright, send me a message on with 4096 or more random characters, or send your SXn to 726@tsuki if you have vtps readily available
happy lain picture
Gonna go to sleep in about an hour, if anyone still wants to ask or say things do it now
Or send me on
I might make another one of these, they're comfy and it feels good to have others talk about your daydreams

Forgive me for my neglect, allow me to love Lain some more.
I am bumping for this surprisingly interesting (Lain) thread

OP I want whatever it is you're on.
>system life was abandoned by its owner
For some reason this makes me sad
I wish i was able to enjoy lain. I loved the art style, mood, sound track, and how easily i could relate to lain felt. The only downfall was the story confused me.
