They are both good dogs, but there is a possibility that the Shiba you get will be autistic like mine is. They are very smart, to the point where they have rationalized past a lot of regular dog behaviors, and often don't get along with other dogs as a result. They are small but vicious, don't forget that the Japanese used them in packs to hunt bears. The pitbull is nice too, but really, the Shiba can draw blood and will always treat a stranger with suspicion, so they make decent guard dogs.

I have a pitbull/German pointer mix and he's excellent except for the fact that he acts entitled and bitchy at times. He's very sweet, but if I didn't train him he would be destructive. Also, he's not good around other dogs. I'd go with the pitbull if I were you anon, they aren't "nigger dogs" if you don't treat them like a nigger would.

Man, I fucking wish Jindos were the same as Shibas. The little bastards are heavy as a dump truck, nothing but muscle. Shibas just look so soft and plush, like an oversized Pomeranian had a kid with a marshmallow.

My only experience with Shiba dogs was, there was one on the ground floor of the apartment I used to live in. Every time he would hear me walking my dog past his window he would pop up and pull faces at my dog. The only way to describe it would be "Japanese face". Would pull back lips (didn't seem aggressive but wtf do I know) and squint his eyes so they were little slits. Made me laugh every time

Many cities in America consider pit bull mixes to be inherently vicious simply for existing and require insurance policies to be registered in the state. Son of a dog trainer here. First off are you willing to supervise a dog for at the very least 8 hours a day the first year? Do you know how to discipline and socialize a dog properly? Truth is most people should not own dogs at all, and many end up with loud obnoxious animals that their owners hate and take to my mother to fix.

1. Pit bulls love people and are very unlikely to attack people even if poorly socialized. You will have to worry about other animals, socializing the dog from a very early age to other dogs and even cats is extremely important for a pitbull to develope properly.
(The reason why pit bulls attack people at a higher rate is because they are abused at a rate 6 times higher than any other dog breed)

2. Shibas are stubborn and independent and WILL NOT listen to you if you do not show them who's calling the shots. Over all they don't like other people or other dogs. Socialize with many people and other dogs from an early age. Discipline training is also very important. It has to know you're the boss at all times. This starts early and honestly harsh. I've never seen my mother have more trouble than with the ancient Asian breeds like chows and both inus.
