I know someone who did this, twice. Eh, I get the sentiment, but I think there is something to be said about carrying the child. My wife regrets not being emotionally prepared to carry our son - that doesn't mean she was crazy or anything - it means she always had this fear and anxiety about it. I'm not sure she could have really prepared herself full without actually doing it, but that's a personal battle and one you and your husband have to work out.

I don't think there is a real answer here for you. I do think there is a large part of being a mother that you will miss out on if you don't go through with it, but even as a guy I know if I had the ability I'd do it, so I'm biased.
