That is me. I went to college for 4 years to make 40k a year.
>>
>>34078303
You would be shocked at the degree in which 23 year olds making more than 50k are the minority.

You pretty much have to be an electrical or petroleum engineer to bust over 50k at 23.

Either that or live in the richest state ever where you make 50k and rent is $1,600 a month
>>
I'm 29 and make 40,000. Honestly I consider it an achievement given how much of a colossal failure I am.
>>
>>34078579
Where do you live, though? 40k in rural WV is like 200k in NYC.
>>
Yearly salary doesn't mean that much without context.

You can make 150k in NYC or Cali but still come out about even with someone making around 60k in bumfuck.
>>
>>34078627
I make 78k as a plant engineer in rural Iowa at 22. Mechanical engineering degree from Purdue. Not unheard of, just gotta talk to the right companies.
>>
I'm 26 and I subsist on a 12k euro stipend, lol
>>
>>34078627
several of the people in my graduating class at university got $50k+ jobs right on graduation. (most of them were around 23, I was older because I started college later)

I got my own job at that pay grade. I hated every minute of every day. I never moved out so I just saved a bunch of money and went back to neeting.
>>
>>34078627
Make $85k. But 1b1b is $1800 around here. And food is somehow way more expensive. I don't undertand how even canned shit like soup can be >25% more here than where I grew up. It has a multi-year shelf life.
>>
>>34078303

I make 60k, but after taxes, health insurance, and 401k contribution the take home is just over $36,000. I should sell drugs.

I'm in MD as an IT guy at 26 years old.
Still working on my Bachelors making 45k

Most of my friends around the same age make a little bit more (Like 50-58). None of us were slinging that much money at 23 though
>>
>>34078760
Well if you're in/near a major city, the higher the taxes and regulatory burdens are. And the higher the minimum wage for the dudes stocking the shelves. It pushes up the cost of living in general.

there's also a big dose of "whatever the market will bear".
>>

30k at 23 is not awful depending on where you live.
30k and no student loans is also not that bad.

All of my friends with degrees are mad that I make 45k without one. They think I should be starving in the street at minimum wage.

I'm glad I went this route. My job is easy as fuck and not stressful, I have plenty of free time to do whatever I want, I get to eat out everyday too. So glad I didn't go into engineering where people fight each other for 50k/year jobs or into medicine where I'd only start making money when I hit 30.

Thinking of buying a car, don't know anything about car brands or shit, just want one that looks nice.

not really, 3-4 years of undergrad then 4 years of pharmacy school, you could graduate by 24-25 if you're smart about it

one of my friends works only 3 days a week and lives his life basically how he wants

>>Thinking of buying a car, don't know anything about car brands or shit, just want one that looks nice.

Save up money, buy the car with cash, without taking a loan. You'll save a lot of money if you buy a recent-model used car instead of a new one. If you're negotiating with a salesman at the dealership, be insistent on negotiating the price first before you talk financing, putting you in debt is where they make a lot of their money. Buy Japanese or German, never ever American.

no, it's just a lot less expensive than america I think, especially for poorfags (if your parents make collective less than 50k, starting 2017 uni will be free)

if you don't fuck around in your final year of highschool, you can easly get a 4k scholarship per year of uni as well, the grants by osap if you're a poorfag cuts the rest away too

>>34079458
Yeah I was considering medicine in the states, tuition to a school I'd get accepted to was fucking 50k a year, adding on living expenses, that'd be another 15k, so around 260k of debt

Don't fall for the 4chan meme where everyone makes 100k a year at 22 as an aerospace engineer. I noticed at least on /pol/ and /r9k/ there's a colossal amount of shitposting from engineers claiming to make a gorillion dollars with no information on where they live.

I'll use Canada as an example since that's where I'm from. 45k a year in somewhere like Nova Scotia is like 110k a year in Vancouver. During the oil boom in Alberta, if you weren't making 55k a year, you were legitimately in poverty due how fucked up the inflation got over there.

>if you aren't making a solid salary by 25 you're probably a fucking shit eater.

A lot of people are shit eaters then, also OP only made this thread to bait people and it worked. The only way you're making $50,000 by 23 is if you either went to trade school and learned a trade that pays well, or you got a college degree in a field that pays well and has a high job employment rate.

I can assure you lots of people in their 20's are still living at home and probably making minimum wage, and those are people with college degrees. Finding a job is harder than people think, especially if you got a degree in a field that nobody is hiring for, or if you have zero experience in said field. For instance I didn't do any internships so I have no real job experience thus nobody will hire me unless I can find entry level work.

At this point I'd be satisfied making $30,000 a year if someone would offer me a position that paid that. Of course I didn't major in CS or any fancy STEM degree, so $30,000 is the best I could expect to make. I could live comfortably off $30,000 a year, I have no kids and I'd probably be living by myself anyway. I have nobody to support except myself, so $30,000 would be fine with me. I've been job hunting for like 4 or 5 months and had zero prospects, I've already accepted that finding a job is going to be really tough. My other problem is I don't live in any big metropolis area, there are no jobs in my town except minimum wage ones. If I wanted a decent job I'd have to relocate to a different city, and sadly I can't afraid to move unless a company gives me a relocation package.

My situation is just shit, I wish I lived in a town that offered entry level jobs. Most of the jobs in my town that pay well are for veterans with years of experience. The rest are just crappy shit jobs that pay like $7.25 an hour, garbage.

Last year I got a 25 cents an hour pay rise and it was the greatest day of my fucking life. I started carrying around 25 cents in the form of two dimes and a nickel and flicking them up as I worked.

Guess what happened?
I managed to drop all the coins into one of the cardio machines which somehow broke it. I had to pay $2000 for a new machine which was 90% of my lifetime savings. Also the personal trainers at the gym have started shouting 'ITS DIME CRIME TIME' whenever they see me.

i want money so bad.

I'm 23 and I make ~130k a year as a software engineer, could have made 150k elsewhere but I wanted name recognition at my company and that one seemed to be going downhill

I mean 80k/yr and I'm 25.

I'm still a kissless virgin.

>this is less net income per month than most people who both work and go to school get

>probably doesn't have a kid
>probably doesn't sleep in his car
There's so many horror stories of people having to "struggle and strive" that it really puts "muh broke student" bullshit into perspective. We all want to be upper-middle class nobility and """travel""", and go "off" to college, but we weren't born into it, and that's that. We have to work, we have to pay rent, we have to pay bills, and maybe we can use our mass sourness to bring about a cultural revolution, as we all enter the workforce and voting block at the same time, with the same bitter experiences, in a few years.

I don't know, man. You can't live on your own, but if you have a roommate or SO to live with, $30-40k becomes more money than you know what to do with, so long as you don't go nigger rich and live reasonably (2bdrm x 1bth in the grungy part of town, 1 econo-car, thrift store hipster clothes, goodwill suits for work, stay away from consumer garbage, like iGadgets, and overpriced mall clothes)

Either half the board live in meme cities, like NY, LA, Portland, or you guys have never lived and worked, and are LARPing.

That, and you can probably run Fallout 4 on max, with HD texture mods. Me and my gf would probably just end up celibate by choice, if we could afford to upgrade our graphics cards.

But I want to live on my own. Whats the point of even working if I can't get away from the normies for at least part of the day.

You can. In your room. Or, throughout the house, if you choose your roommate carefully. My last was basically never there, so I had a 4 bedroom house to myself, making $12hr. My current is my SO, who's more of an autist than me, and I'm not really bothered.

If you have the kind that sits on the couch, menacing the walk to the kitchen and bathroom all day, it will be hell, however.
