Robots from foreign places, how did you learn to read and write English so good that you can understand 4chan's erratic linguistics and typing patterns?

Do you use English language boards as escapism?

What are the popular online places in your native language like?

Wasted my entire youth on playing video games and watching subbed anime. I speak English fluently as a result, but it doesn't make up for how badly I destroyed my life.

>What are the popular online places in your native language like?
Normalfag garbage, there are no popular 4chan-esque places for my country as far as I am concerned.
>>
>How did you learn to read and write English so good that you can understand 4chan's erratic linguistics and typing patterns?
By using pretty much only English social media by 7.

>Do you use English language boards as escapism?
Not really, I don't like seeing anything in my native language at all.

>What are the popular online places in your native language like?
Bad. Like, really, really bad.

Vidya, there were barely any translations when I was young.

you're here forever etc.

>What are the popular online places in your native language like?
You don't want to know. 4chan is good in comparison.

I live in Switzerland, we got good schools as opposed to the rest of the world. Also I just kept learning once I was out of school because I like english the most. It sounds smooth and beautiful with all those open vocals and it's one of the most easiest languages.

>What are the popular online places in your native language like?

There are almost none because this fucking country doesnt exist on the internet
>>
>>34065079
Currently? I have no idea. I stopped watching CN around 2005. I used to love watching Courage the cowardly dog, Ed, Edd & Eddy and Johnny Bravo. The grim adventures of Billy and Mandy and Samurai Jack were good as well. I'm forgetting a lot, though now that I look back on these shows I can't help but see a feminist agenda in Johnny Bravo the rejected macho and the Powerpuff Girls who always fell for the bad Chads (those bad green guys) and would always beat up that epitome of the modern-day patriarchy Macho Jojo (who was too intelligent and had to hide his brain in a jar)

What is that? The only other language I know somewhat (thanks American public school) is French. I made this thread because I've been thinking about learning a new language to lurk other places online.

yes, it is pure boredom and escapism to me.

in most countries there are only one or two country exclusive websites that are big enough to matter and there is no bigger imageboard than this one.
>>
Frenchfag here.

I started being on the Internet at the age of 6. I gradually visited more and more English websites. By the time I turned 11, I understood that English Wikipedia pages were way better and thorough than French ones.
I started playing WoW with English-speaking people, then I started to read American newspapers online, then I started to visit English forums, websites, imageboards at the age of 13/14. I also started when I was a young teenager to read English novels (Ayn Rand) or essays (Milton Friedman) or memoirs (Margaret Thatcher), to watch subtitled TV series, etc, etc. At the age of 16/17 I was visiting more frequently English websites than French websites. I'm 19 now.

>What are the popular online places in your native language like?
I would say bad. But not because they are inherently bad, but because it gathers all the scum of the French people that is not even able to use the Internet thoroughly, i.e. internationally. So it's just a gathering of retards too dumb to learn another language and to speak to foreigners. The more people on a website, the more interesting it is, that's it. That's why English websites are popular.
>>
>>34065165
>I live in Switzerland, we got good schools as opposed to the rest of the world.
I live in Germany and this triggers me. The Swiss really are the most arrogant people out there.
>>
My native language is really close to english and all our movies and most of our media is just US media but subbed.
I also played a lot of videogames when I was younger and talked to american people.
Sometimes people ask if I was born in the US and it flatters me.
>>
>>34065201

(same anon)
It's not really escapism in my place, since I really prefer French over English. I actually dislike English and I don't find in it the beauty, the poetry and the intellectual aspects that French possess. But hey, it's lingua franca so better get used to it.
>>
>>34065023
>this, french people online either sound like they're 12 or an even more retarded version of /pol

Don't everybody learn it in school? Also, my country is obsessed with American culture, American music and entertainment have been all around us ever since we were young. Everything is in English.

I also started to use the Internet when I was 9 years old. I remember playing Stardoll and Runescape all the time.

>What are the popular online places in your native language like?
Nothing that falls under my interests so I never browse there.

Honestly i can't stand reading what anyone writes in my main language (Arabic), everyone either writes too politely and positive or like a mindless retard.

I don't even bother checking any kind of forum if it's not English.

Also English speakers are way more corrupted, twisted and sick in the head, which is more interesting and relate-able
>>

>lol so are you Albanian or Swedish?

>Also, learning English off a texbook is for literal retards. If you couldn't pick it up from TV shows and PC games as a child, you should've considered suicide
Yes, that is the best way to learn a language but English classes still was and are useful for me.
>>
Most non-retard europeans can speak atleast conversational english by the time they're 6. Just by playing video games or watching english television. English is a relatively easy language to pick up, though the amount of people who would fail english classes in my high school was unreal. In my experience most germans are still the worst english speakers I've met, they don't give a fuck about other languages, even most french people have a better grasp of it. I think the big advantage non-native speakers have over amerifats is that we're atleast learning new words and perfecting our english by shitposting.
>>
>>34064973
I'm a gamer.
At some point, I noticed that the translations were often shit-tier, possibly because German isn't a good language for conveying emotion, unless that emotion is anger. So I started to run games with English voice+German subs.

One day I noticed I'd learned English by accident.

100% agree

When I watch videos or listen to music in my native language I'm always completely aware of how silly it all is

Even though I'm pretty fluent in English the "filter effect" is still real because I have no emotional connection to any of the words and it uses a different part of my brain. I can't even always tell how intelligent someone is in a different language. So I'm using English for novelty reasons I guess.

That's actually quite an insight you provided here. I always wondered why everything in my native language sounds so silly.
Using other languages like english just makes the topic more serious. I can't take anything seriously that is spoken in my native language, for example even when people talk about very serious themes in some documentary like suicide or murder, it just sounds belittling. Switching to another language and it instantly sounds more mature.

I spent most of my life in a small town in India and am currently living in a big city in India. When I was a child my relative owned an Internet Cafe in a nearby area so I would go there everyday until I turned I bought my own laptop.

I can speak, read and write English with some fluency because of subbed Hollywood movies and reading books. It's honestly not that difficult to 'get' memespeak, once you start spending more than a few years on the internet.

Internet sites in India are shit. We have a community of Indians on reddit but it is only marginally less crap.

Escapism? Not really. It's just fun to browse the web, and nowadays it's pretty much the only thing I actually enjoy.

We study English since 1st grade here. They really enforce it.

Vidya, movies, music

Yeah, also like >>34065023 said, everything sounds stupid in the native language.

There is an anonymous image board in my native language, but it's shit.

Syrian here. Native Arabic speaker.

My contact with internet culture, unfortunately, started with Reddit.

After I had thoroughly used it, I had a group of subreddits I frequent.

It got boring quickly. Then, I found out about 4chan, but I was appaled by the amounts of porn, since I was doing nofap.

Now I don't care. The humour here is better, and I can relate to the people in mylany boards.

Why I come here ? Why not. I like 4chin.

Books read by mom before sleeping

>Do you use English language boards as escapism
No, I use it because it's most active, I could use hispachan but my country is so small there's barely any talk about it

>What are the popular online places in your native language like
