I started being on the Internet at the age of 6. I gradually visited more and more English websites. By the time I turned 11, I understood that English Wikipedia pages were way better and thorough than French ones.
I started playing WoW with English-speaking people, then I started to read American newspapers online, then I started to visit English forums, websites, imageboards at the age of 13/14. I also started when I was a young teenager to read English novels (Ayn Rand) or essays (Milton Friedman) or memoirs (Margaret Thatcher), to watch subtitled TV series, etc, etc. At the age of 16/17 I was visiting more frequently English websites than French websites. I'm 19 now.

Yes, that is the best way to learn a language but English classes still was and are useful for me.

Most non-retard europeans can speak atleast conversational english by the time they're 6. Just by playing video games or watching english television. English is a relatively easy language to pick up, though the amount of people who would fail english classes in my high school was unreal. In my experience most germans are still the worst english speakers I've met, they don't give a fuck about other languages, even most french people have a better grasp of it. I think the big advantage non-native speakers have over amerifats is that we're atleast learning new words and perfecting our english by shitposting.

My language school gave us a ton of optional text books to do over the summer when I was 13, and I went through the whole stack of books in a single month. Years later I was running circles around my translation classmates despite being the youngest in a group of people whose ages pretty much ran the whole gamut.

Even though I'm pretty fluent in English the "filter effect" is still real because I have no emotional connection to any of the words and it uses a different part of my brain. I spent most of my life in a small town in India and am currently living in a big city in India. When I was a child my relative owned an Internet Cafe in a nearby area so I would go there everyday until I turned I bought my own laptop.

I can speak, read and write English with some fluency because of subbed Hollywood movies and reading books.It's honestly not that difficult to 'get' memespeak, once you start spending more than a few years on the internet.

Internet sites in India are shit. We have a community of Indians on reddit but it is only marginally less crap.
