When would you ever need 16GB of Ram?
>>
Running Firefox
>>
I don't know I just bought it because RAM are cheap as bread.
>>
>>34040667
Some games already require more than 8gb
>>
>>34040667
Running firefox/chrome and games at the same time.
>>
>>34040667
I know this is not the subject of the thread, but can someone explain to me why is Firefox so shit? It keeps freezing when I'm loading threads and typing on the text box, it's so fucking annoying. My specs are fine too (i5 and 16gb of RAM), so it's not hardware related.
>>
If only every person on /r9k/ donated 3 dollars to Mozilla Firefox team.

running lots of virtual machines
>>
>>34042026
Not sure if you read my post, but I see no reason for Firefox being so buggy, while other browsers like Vivaldi and Chromium work flawlessly. It really is a piece of shit of a browser.
>>
>>34042086
try 64bit version of firefox, or if using it already try 32bit version
>>
I develop things that often need a lot of memory. Some things would need a supercomputer, and doing those with measly desktop pc processors and RAM is agonizing.
>>
>>34040667
so i wont need a hdd
>>
>>34040667
Running Lightroom, Photoshop, and other stuff at the same time.

Doing any kind of video editing or 3D modelling/rendering.

Having more than about three Chrome tabs open.

For a big raid server. Fewer disk hits, better transfer speeds.

Only 16? I never use less than 64.
>>
>>34040667
You might use it for a server (depending on its application) or if you happen to use your computer for rendering.

why even have that much ram if you can't utilize it with shit processing speed.
>>
>>34040667
photoshop.
My average PSD size is about 500MB and have some upwards of a gig.

That shit chews through ram like fucking nothin' and scratch disks are too fucking slow. I'll fill all 16gigs of ram + another 10 in scratch as I work on a painting.

it's fuckin' ridic.
>>
>>34042559
>3D modelling/rendering.
uhhh, what?

No, no. That's not the ram you're thinking of.
>>
>>34043066
Processing speed is fine.

>>34042149
It's the same on both versions.

When would you ever need a car that can go faster than 70 mph?
>>
>>34043138
Depends on the software. I'll admit I don't know that much about doing 3D for fancy visuals (VFX, gaming, etc.) but SolidWorks and stuff like that are pretty RAM-heavy.

You mean recommend. No game requires 16gb
>>

I stopped using Firefox 8 years ago. It has never been famous for its speed, anon. Nothing I've read about it since I switched to jewgle chrome has ever convinced me to switch back to Firefox.

I have an i5 and 16GB and RAM bottlenecks me way more often than CPU. (I almost never see over 60% CPU but I'm often running in the 90s for RAM.)

I do a lot of /p/ stuff but not super heavy editing, so I'm working with large RAW files but few layers or CPU-intensive processes.

Rate my rig. The clock-speed on the processor is 4.5. The 1070 is also somewhat overclocked, and the 4k monitor is great. Got it for cheap.

Firefox is crap and so is palemoon, chrome seems to be the fastest browser these days.
>>
>>34047471

Probably, but it runs way better than 16gb of ram

Its the only game I've played that goes beyond 16gb

I have over 70 mods and over 2,000 assets though

interesting concept
just did this for the first time and got it to work today
except i think it's only technically a virtual machine and I couldn't get it to save to the right area it wanted to over write the hard drive partition and not the flash
fucking learning coding online is such a pain in the ass they should just tell people fucking learn c already i would of figured a lot of this all out easier along time ago if someone just said start with C
>>
RAM isn't that expensive, and games in the future will need more.
>>
>>34043431
Why does that eat up so much RAM?
>>
>>34047787
Tfw only got 4 gigs of ram and still have a tiny penis. Eh I'll get my revenge financially I guess
