1. Do you believe your time on 4chan has changed you? That is: are you the way you are because of 4chan, or are you on 4chan because you're the way you are?
2. Say your life would turn around and you'd have a wife and children some day. Would you ever mention 4chan to them (assuming it's been a big part of your life)?
3. What common characteristics do you think 4channers have? Not robots, 4channers in whole. Are 4channers more depressed, intelligent..., than the general crowd, for example?
4. Why did moot abandon us?
5. How has 4chan affected your life?

Add more q:s if you will.

Given I have been browsing since I was still a younger teenager(2007) , I believe 4chan has changed me and my life unfathomably.

I wouldn't mention 4chan to my family, no

I think compared to the average man or woman 4channers are more intelligent and depressed.

He wanted to be a normie or a rich internet kid like Zuckerberg but realised that he couldn't do either of those things with 4chan

I'm probably a completely different person because of my time here.
>>
>>26409312
Yes. I was naive and sincere before being here for so long, I used to actually want people to like me and go out of my way for the tiniest bit of recognition.

I'd ask my wife about it, if she used it, that's about it.

That depends, I'm going to assume you mean people who are on here literally everyday for years if so we're introverted, calculating and repressed I'd guess.

I think he said 4chan was becoming too much work and not enough money or something.

It's aged me.
>>
>Do you believe your time on 4chan has changed you? That is: are you the way you are because of 4chan, or are you on 4chan because you're the way you are?
4chan definitely changes you. But with that said, I always was a fucking loser growing up. I honestly think 4chan is just a club for social challenged smart people.
2. Say your life would turn around and you'd have a wife and children some day. Would you ever mention 4chan to them (assuming it's been a big part of your life)?
No way in hell (unless my wife was channer too and I knew that). I'm not sure if I'd tell my kids about it. It probably isn't a great influence for children.
3. What common characteristics do you think 4channers have? Not robots, 4channers in whole. Are 4channers more depressed, intelligent..., than the general crowd, for example?
Most are smart to a degree, I'd say that the IQ skews upwards for sure. It depends heavily on the board I'd say. /lit/ and /his/ are patrician-tier.
4. Why did moot abandon us?
He got tired of babysitting emotionally retarded/retarded/psychopathic people.
5. How has 4chan affected your life?
I'm right-wing in part due to /pol/ influence (although I was a leftie for a long time until various things happened in my life and internationally). I've read a lot more because of /lit/ and /fit/ was what started me lifting. /r9k/ allows me to joke with people who remind me of who I used to be.

It's a good site if you ignore the retards and always treat what's posted with healthy skepticism.

Been around since fucking Rozen Maiden and good old Cockmongler.
>1. Do you believe your time on 4chan has changed you? That is: are you the way you are because of 4chan, or are you on 4chan because you're the way you are?
I'd be lying if I said it didn't change me, but the truth is that I ended on 4chan mostly because I am a loner by nature and I like to keep my social contacts quick and easy. An anonymous image board with no sugarcoating and no inhibitions to cursing is just the thing for me.

>2. Say your life would turn around and you'd have a wife and children some day. Would you ever mention 4chan to them (assuming it's been a big part of your life)?
Most likely not.

>3. What common characteristics do you think 4channers have? Not robots, 4channers in whole. Are 4channers more depressed, intelligent..., than the general crowd, for example?
Displaced. Just about everybody who is here doesn't feel at home elsewhere, with peers, college classmates, colleagues at work, in clubs etc.; I'd say that 4chan folks are on average very honest, but that might just be a side effect of the anonymous nature.
Also, dissatisfied, in one way or another. I sense a lot of... Weltschmerz. Yeah, that's the right word.

>4. Why did moot abandon us?
Financial reasons and wanting to break free from the responsibilities.

>5. How has 4chan affected your life?
I believe I see things clearly without the sugarcoating. I have to thank 4chan for getting me into many hobbies and for enhancing them through anonymous contact. Also, for once, I felt in the right crowd, among peers and that was in Warbros, the Warframe clan. Too bad it exploded on itself.

I'm not sure if I count as an oldfag (first came in 2006 when I was 14, started browsing regularly early 07, first post mid 08 didn't get accused of being underage until a month ago, funnily enough), but now I'm realizing that was eight years ago, so it might be long enough:

>1. Do you believe your time on 4chan has changed you? That is: are you the way you are because of 4chan, or are you on 4chan because you're the way you are?
I think I always was the kind of person that would be attracted to 4chan, you kind of have to be, but actually using it sort of progresses you "down that path", acclimating to the environment and being changed by the actual experiences. But I'm definitely a different person beyond what you'd expect from just growing up and getting out into the world.

>2. Say your life would turn around and you'd have a wife and children some day. Would you ever mention 4chan to them (assuming it's been a big part of your life)?
Yeah, sure. I know it sounds lame, but I've seen and done some crazy shit here, and had a lot of the best laughs and feels I've ever had. I might not go into too much detail (exactly how many execution .gifs I had to see before I stopped being sickened is something I doubt they would want to know), but it's been a big influence, if they didn't know about my time on it they wouldn't really know ME.

>3. What common characteristics do you think 4channers have? Not robots, 4channers in whole. Are 4channers more depressed, intelligent..., than the general crowd, for example?
Certainly more intelligent in terms of raw brain power on average. The desire to archive/save mass amounts of data, ability to notice similarities in disparate pieces of information, and slightly unusual senses of humor/sex (all signs of aspergers) seem to be very common. The meme about literally everyone having autism is overblown, but it's not totally untrue. Cont.

>4. Why did moot abandon us?
Eh, I don't think he was ever really "one of us", but he believed in the principle behind the site (obviously). He was always a "normie", but that isn't really a bad thing. Eh, he saw and advocated the virtues of anonymity, allowed us to pull our shit no matter how much it likely wasn't his thing, and had the ambition to build this fucked up little world in the first place, he's okay in my book.

>5. How has 4chan affected your life?
I've always been a demi-autist, but before I started coming here I was one of those meme spouting retards you see in cringe videos, I just had no idea how stupid I surely looked and seemed. Coming here made me much more self aware (even if you say something reasonable people tear you apart), but also helped me see when I was actually right despite open criticism. Sort of an intellectual and social self-actualization, I guess? Obviously I'm on /r9k/, so I'm not exactly a success story, but I do legitimately believe being here during adolescence has been a positive for me. If not, I might be happier, but it would only be due to ignorance. And if there's one thing this place has taught me, it's that it's better to feel like shit for a good reason than to be happy for no reason.

I've also learned that, sometimes, you just have to add "also check my fucking dubs" to a long and serious post. Usually it won't pay off, but occasionally it will, and that's all that matters.
>>
>>26409312
The latter. I have capacity to quit addictions as long as I find a temporary replacement for my obsession.

Only if I deemed it necessary or saw her/them cut out for it. Hypothetically though, since the girls that find me interesting aren't my type most of time.

I'd assume as a whole we share our contempt for the naive, times of need to shitpost, share wank material. There's only porn thirst that majority has something in common here. Some might deny that but majority ends up fapping once something exciting catches their eyes.

He just passed the ownership. Also cuck shit was getting out of hand.

Probably did more bad than good. It's not right to blame shortcomings on other entities but it did contribute to some of my failures. If I didn't find 4chan as underage in middle school I would probably be more well adjusted. But that's just a wild guess.
>>
I hope you fail your doctoral thesis and change the topic to something you already have a history with.

1. Tandem. It was the continuation of a process of realizing who I really was that started at some indefinite point in the 20th century. I reflect a part of what 4chan is, and vice versa.

2. Yes. This place is no worse than Facebook or Reddit. Every site has assholes and good people. Being involved in 4chan is like being in a fraternal organization. It's not synonymous with your identity, but it's a part of it.

3. Passionate and longing. This place is human contact, but filtered of human detail (faces, names). We're here to discuss things we love and hate, because merely killing time isn't enough.

4. Abandon? I disagree. You don't really leave, you just stop logging in. moot felt the need to be in charge, and that was fine at the beginning. But the site got bigger and faster and more mainstream, and it became too much work. His enthusiasm for it wore away, but his need to be in charge, if anything, intensified. Another guy would've shared being admin with some of the mods, and just retained final word on big decisions. He couldn't. He had to transfer the burden whole to someone else.

5. Access to content. I never could keep up, and I still can't, but other people can do parts of it for me. Remember, this is only an interface, it's the users that make up 4chan. Millions of devices connecting millions of brains.
>>
>>26409312
been here maybe 5 years don't know if that counts as oldfag yet but it seems a while

>1. Do you believe your time on 4chan has changed you? That is: are you the way you are because of 4chan, or are you on 4chan because you're the way you are?
honestly think in one way it has helped me, as a total friendless loser it's given me some guys I can talk to everyday. It makes me feel I am not alone in being a fuck up. On the other hand, it's a great time waster when you are depressed and unmotivated.
>2. Say your life would turn around and you'd have a wife and children some day. Would you ever mention 4chan to them (assuming it's been a big part of your life)?
I'd like to find a wife who also liked 4chan. But if I found a more normie wife, I guess I wouldn't go out of the way to show her it. But that might be a problem waiting to occur. Of course, I am going to die alone.
>3. What common characteristics do you think 4channers have? Not robots, 4channers in whole. Are 4channers more depressed, intelligent..., than the general crowd, for example?
I think slightly more intelligent, as in, they know how to find their way around technology. That doesn't mean they are all super intelligent though. But few are utterly dumb at least. I don't think in general they are more depressed; rather, they are more likely to talk about it since it's anonymous.
>4. Why did moot abandon us?
because he's a faggot. Seriously, I guess he tired of the drama and probably realised his "fame" could help him do other things that might potentially make more money. He wanted serious bizness.
>5. How has 4chan affected your life?
see 1.? In some ways, it improved it, making me feel less alone and also expanding my horizons about a lot of things (for example, I used to think druggy types were scary nutters, now I realise most are pretty chill guys who I could probably be friends with). In other ways, I've wasted a hell of a lot of time here.
>>
8 years on 4chan

1. Yes it's definitely changed me, probably not for the better. I came here because of the way I am, but it exacerbates things.

2. Sure, to the wife. Not to the kids.

3. More depressed, more anxious, more autistic, etc.; not more intelligent.

4. moot is a businessman, I don't really give a fuck.

5. More asocial, more cynical, less motivated, more addicted to the internet
>>
1. Yes. I tried to be normal before but I hated myself for it. After 4chan I still mostly hated myself, but I had found my people.

2. Yes. What's wrong with 4chan?

3. Prone to anxiety, hate themselves, act out their frustration on others. Obviously like 75% of the posts are by Aspergers/sociopaths.

4. He was a normalfag all along.

5. I'm personally overly truthful to myself, and I refuse to accept delusions like religion and shit. Reality comes first, no exceptions. If I am wrong I am wrong, I can try to change my mind or behave appropriately, but even if that doesn't work, I am still aware I am wrong and making worse decisions than I could be.

>Do you believe your time on 4chan has changed you? That is: are you the way you are because of 4chan, or are you on 4chan because you're the way you are?
it's definitely helped shape my humor, though i did start to enjoy going here because a lot of the humor was the same as mine, also i've gotten more into politics because of this place. i feel like i care less about offensive shit because of this place and that i'm probably more offensive than i was

>Say your life would turn around and you'd have a wife and children some day. Would you ever mention 4chan to them (assuming it's been a big part of your life)?
well, the person i'm going to marry already knows of 4chan cause we met on here haha, idk if i'll mention it to my kids, maybe if it comes up

>What common characteristics do you think 4channers have? Not robots, 4channers in whole. Are 4channers more depressed, intelligent..., than the general crowd, for example?
i think the 4chan crowd is generally less politically correct (even if they're leftist) and don't care so much about offending people

>Why did moot abandon us?
didn't he turn into libcuck

>How has 4chan affected your life?
it has made the internet more comfortable for me as i was never comfortable with forums and sites that had accounts where you always will be identified, so i enjoy being on the internet more, but that might be a bad thing as i spend all my time on here and never go outside. i've met the love of my life on here though so i'm forever grateful

Are you just a furry then? You can say you want to have kits. It's ok here
>>
>>26409312
1. Yes. I don't understand.
2. I don't think that's necessary. Unless they want to know about it.
3. Hard to say nowadays, because it's become really mainstream. I always think of the regular guy you don't know too much about.
4. Because moving on is important and this site doesn't have anything to add to his life anymore.
5. I've learned some stuff about myself, which would have taken way longer to figure out else. Also it made me more self-confident (believe it or not) and taught me to speak my mind.

What I don't like about this site is the mean people who think they know everything. You know, if you say something's shit then tell us why, otherwise you just don't have any idea what you're talking about and are just putting down people, because you've been put down too many times yourself.

Given that, I really like you guys, you've been part of hard times of my life.
thank you

29yo KV reporting in.

>1. Do you believe your time on 4chan has changed you? That is: are you the way you are because of 4chan, or are you on 4chan because you're the way you are?
Probably, mostly how it acts as a substitute for socialization. I honestly don't know if that's a good or bad thing. But yeah, it's pretty much an addiction if you consider how many manhours I put into this fucking site every day. Then again, given my personality, maybe I would've just become addicted to some other site.

>2. Say your life would turn around and you'd have a wife and children some day. Would you ever mention 4chan to them (assuming it's been a big part of your life)?
I guess if I really trusted them. If your strategy is to put on a normie mask, it would be a bad idea. I've never had a relationship, so I have no idea how that would work.

3. What common characteristics do you think 4channers have? Not robots, 4channers in whole. Are 4channers more depressed, intelligent..., than the general crowd, for example?
Nah, most 4channers are just regular people. The most we have in common is that we all know the injokes and references. Everyone thinks they're smarter than average, that's just human nature.

4. Why did moot abandon us?
Didn't he become a SJW along with his Gawker buddies? Eh, I would get sick of trying to manage a cesspool of teenagers for literally no profit, too.

5. How has 4chan affected your life?
See #1. Without 4chan I would've had infinitely more time, maybe spent socializing, or learning, or living life. But if I was always destined to be a failure, maybe I would've been a lot lonelier without you guys being my pretend friends.
>>
>>26412203
But see it that way, you're also learning and socializing, even living life while here. Just differently. Also, if you want to learn, we could make a board study group in mathematics or so.
>>
>>26412293
Study group? I guess that could work.
Honestly though, learning and all that shit is really just a step to my real goal: to become someone who deserves. I just want to be loved, mang. And no anonymous image board can give you that, unfortunately.
>>
>>26412407
An anonymous image board can make you loved or hated or both (moot is a good example). But it'll be the idea of you, not the real you. People have to know the real you before they can love it. Or, the usual approach, you gradually reveal the real you to people who claim to love you, and hope it doesn't scare them off.
