Because more often then not (and that I mean almost every time) people only post their faces for attention seeking reasons. This not only annoys a large part of the community but it also essential means that you're proposing yourself to be important enough to let people know who you are by removing your anonymity (it's so looked down on by everyone that mods go so far as to ban)

It used to be that we had these kind of threads on /r9k/ instead and they were much better here. Then the frogposters before frogposting starting to do their version of REEEE so loudly that moot couldn't stand /r9k/ any longer and to break it up created /soc/ as well as other interest boards such as /lit/, followed by outright deleting /r9k/ for a year and a half.
/r9k/ social threads were pretty good and not infested with normalfags as /soc/ is, and we used to have intelligent discussions all the time.

If I had my way, /soc/ wouldn't exist. I think it should be repurposed to be a sex board (meetups and camwhoring) and another misc board should be made where posting face is allowed. Or just allow it on either /b/ or /r9k/. They're basically the same thing now, so I don't think it matters.

Yeah, and then r9k was deleted because the board was meant to be 100% OC and actual well-written discussion posts. It was broken down into what jewt thought it deteriorated into: /adv/, /lit/, and /soc/. Now it's a containment board because of frogposters and tfwnogf. That's why the robot was removed for the longest time.

Yes, because /r9k/ was left extremely polarised after it got broken down and the frogposters took over, believing now that this board was always about it.
It was already happening when moot shut us down for the sole reason he couldn't stand those people. Then he realised /r9k/ posters just annoyed the rest of the site, backed down and brought it back, but it was admitting defeat and having /r9k/ as a frogposter containment board.
