The debate about whether pornography is harmful or not has been a long-standing one, but I have a feeling that VR porn is going to inflame it even higher. Unlike traditional porn, the user can dictate what happens (to a certain extent). How exactly do we set boundaries for this kind of thing? If an actress doesn't want to do something, how do you prevent the users of these games from doing such things to her virtual avatar? These games can allow guys to basically molest virtual women. Would they be violating their boundaries, or should they be free to do whatever they wish to these avatars?
Suppose that these games can be modded for new scenarios and props to re-enact fetish scenarios. There is basically no way to prevent people from doing whatever they wish with these avatars short of extreme DRM (and even that can be cracked).
Then we have the ability to alter the avatars. What if a guy decides to change the skin tone of a black actress to white? Or makes a chubby actress skinny? That's pretty damn offensive to the original actresses, but what exactly could be done about it? What if a guy wants to do a hetero scene with a scan of a lesbian actress?
And of course there's the dark path of VR scenarios simulating illegal acts such as bestiality, pedophilia, snuff, rape, etc. A lot of the guys on Reddit who are chomping at the bit for VR porn aren't...the most mentally stable or progressive guys. Letting them literally act out twisted acts like rape strikes me as a very, very worrying thing.
Of course I could just be losing my mind over nothing, but this is something I want to bring up regardless. Even the most offensive and misogynistic porn is still uninteractive. VR porn will allow these maladjusted men to literally insert themselves into and act out these violent fantasies. I can't help but find this somewhat troubling.

I have a terrible feeling that in the coming decade people are going to try and have VR porn regulated and even banned, especially women and the feminist/far-left types. And I don't mean just for keeping it away from the "vulnerable" minds of teenage boys. I mean they're going to try and ban it for adults. You'll hear a lot of buzzwords being thrown around, and accusations of VR porn promoting sexism and "objectification". This will be their primary method to justify banning it and silence dissent. Women are terrified of losing their sexual power over men (even the ones they wouldn't sleep with anyway!) and make no mistake, VR is a MASSIVE threat to them in this regard. And believe me, they WILL try to shut it down. They will take it to the federal level. They will make massive campaigns against it, basically the same kind of thing you see now. They'll probably call it objectication culture or something. Can't you hear John Oliver's segment on VR porn and the rise of "objectification culture" yet? Can't you hear Anna from the young turks crying about VR porn and the objectification of women yet and demanding it needs to be stopped in the name of social progression? Can't you see a president Bernie Sanders passing legislation to appease his voter base and alleviate them of the stress caused by people doing things they don't like?
Because it's fucking coming.
