What you may also do before changing the "Level" setting, is to crank down the saturation setting, it helps sometimes ;) (like, put it at 2% or so :))

OK -- This result was two steps. First, select white area. Second, go to Image/Adjustments/Levels and hit "autolevel" then move edge arrows to ends of the histogram and move middle arrow to the right until image is as clear as possible. After that, adjust colors, sharpen/blur/contrasts to taste.
