Instructions are generally the same.

One thing to note on the Color -> Levels dialog is that the "Input" sliders let you increase/decrease the colors that are already in the image.

The "Output" sliders are more additive, so you can add colors that weren't there to begin with; this is good for colorizing things that lack color, but you naturally lose accuracy and detail as the added color washes out the underlying image.

The spiky graph on the Input slider shows you how much detail the image contains along the current color channel. When dragging the sliders, try to get close to the black spikes without going past them; you don't want to exclude too much of the original color details from the underlying image.
