Rather ordinary challenge. Not what I had in mind. Problem -- weaved thick thread is (1) thick and (2) highly textured. Also this has uneven light (both shadow and glare). Fucked Up.

Try using Invert first. Then Curves and or infrared. Then finish with exposure and or levels or even sometimes curves for a good finish. The key is to play around with the same pic using various techniques. Good Luck!
