You are Lars, a young adult, average in nearly all aspects of life, still living with your parents, and you've just moved to a new city!

Background:
A couple days ago, your dad got news that he was being transferred by his job, effective immediately. Since you're a piece of shit that still lives with his parents, they have no choice but to take you with them. Any plans you thought you had for your future are no longer viable.
Rather than reading up on the new city you're moving to, you spend your last night in your hometown drinking with your childhood friends, lose your phone, and spend all but $150.00 dollars of your savings. The next morning, you board a plane to your new city, pass out in the cab from the airport, and wake up in your new house with no knowledge of your surroundings.

Rules:
1. Options will be given for each post, but you may elaborate on the options to an extent. Some posts will allow write-ins.
2. Sometimes a roll will be required for an option. Details of how each roll works may vary.
3. In order to progress the story, time skips will sometimes be an option. In the case, Lars just goes to work, doesn't do any exploring, and maintains his social connections without making any new ones or deepening the ones he currently has.
4. In each update, I will answer a question about Lars's life before moving, to give context about how certain options could play out.

It's 2pm, January 1st, 2017, and you've just woken up in your new house, extremely hungover, what do you do?

A: Explore the new house that you've moved in to, seeing what the old owners left behind.

B: Go outside and explore your new neighborhood

C: Other

Extremely disoriented at first, you manage to get off the ground. The house is almost completely empty because the movers won't arrive for another week with your family's furniture.
You start by looking around the first floor. The living room is completely empty except for the blanket you were lying down on. You walk back in to the kitchen, where the old neighbors left their fridge and microwave. No food though. Back on the other side of the living room, you enter what must be your new bedroom. All that's in here are some coat hangers and an old landline telephone mounted on the wall. It works.

You make your way upstairs to explore the second floor. Nearly the entire floor is taken up by your parent's bedroom, which is still empty, because your parents are driving to the new house, rather than flying as you did. On your way back downstairs, you notice a small door on the wall, which leads to a crawl space/storage room. The ground is littered with books, and dozens of hand written notes, all in Chinese. You take some back to your room, in case you encounter anybody who will be able to translate them.

Finally in the back of the kitchen you find the staircase to the basement. It's unfinished, and smells of dust and mildew. You find that there is no washing machine, so you will have to go to the laundromat, at least until your parents get one. In the corner, behind a table there is another door, locked with a deadbolt. You try to get it open, but there's no use. Your parents probably have a key.

It's getting close to 5pm, and you're getting hungry. You need to figure out a way to get dinner. Do you..

A:Order a pizza with your landline phone, and spend a good chunk of the $150.00 that has to last you until you can get a job
B:Walk down the street until you find a restaurant/convenience store/grocery store (specify direction)

Go south and ask for directions for a cheap restaurant. You could also take advantage to see if there's any store with "help wanted" signs in the path

You decide to go out to eat, and see a bit of the city along the way.

It's cold out. You can probably make it a couple blocks in the clothes you have on, but it's no time to be wandering around aimlessly.
You knew that you lived on Lake Rd. from the address that you had to give to your cab driver, but now you see that you're on the corner of W. 200th St. You assume that probably means there's a large downtown area several miles east of here.

You walk south across your street and encounter a man waiting at the bus stop. You approach him cautiously and ask him where you can get something to eat. He tells you about some gringo Mexican Chipotle knockoff about a half mile further south that's got cheap burritos. You make the walk to the restaurant through a residential neighborhood, but it's getting dark, and the snow is too heavy too see down any side streets. Sure enough, though, you make it to a plaza with a Mexican restaurant called Fresca. You get your food, sit down and eat.

As you finish eating, you decide what to do next.
A: Inquire about any job openings in the restaurant, despite being hungover, and soaking wet with snow

B: Strike up conversations with random customers in the restaurant

C: Go home

D: Other

Any other choice could lead to get sick and therefore unfit for a job for a few days

Wise choice.
After you finish eating, you start making your way back home. It's snowing a bit less now, and as you leave the restaurant, you can see that there is a Planet Fitness across the parking lot, and what you thought was a plaza is actually the beginning of a large commercial district that extends as far as you can see eastward down Main Street.

By the time you arrive home, it's already late, and you have nothing to do, so you go to sleep on the floor.

It is now January 2nd, 10 AM, and your parents still won't arrive for another day. The weather is better today, and you're not hungover.

What do you do?
>>
>>979442

Buy a local newspaper to see the published jobs you could take. If it fails or they are too far from home, get to know more about your immediate area, maybe going north this time.
>>
>>979454
Buy a newspaper? It would be better than to just wait for the paper boy to deliver it. Lars should save money.

Lets explore more.

You figure that your top priority in this new city should be getting a job. You remember that last night, the bus stop that you passed had a newspaper machine at it, so you get dressed and walk across the street to buy one.

Most of the jobs in the newspaper are too far to walk, or require professional training or a college degree, but there are a couple that stand out to you.
1. Fresca is hiring a line cook at $8.50 an hour, plus a spit of the tip jar. The only cooking experience you have is a month at McDonald's when you were 15, but you feel as if this is in your reach.
2. An environmental activist group based three miles away is hiring canvassers at $350 dollars a week, plus a 40% commission of all donations collected for the group. This job seems to have scam written all over it, but you would be on the side of the scammer.
3. Part time bartender at a place called the Last Call Lounge, about 5 miles east, but just off the bus line that passes your house. You have no experience as a bartender, but you have plenty of experience going to bars. Maybe they would train you. Either way, it seems like the kind of place that you would like to go check out some night to meet people.

>>979515
No newspaper subscription at the house.

As you read the newspaper, taking note of these jobs, you walk north a bit to find that your house is just 2 blocks away from the beach! The Lake is frozen this time of year, but you can tell that this is a popular tourist destination in the summer.

You're siting in the park, deciding what to do next.

Circle the job in fresca, you will take it into consideration. Keep exploring and go west

Sitting in the park, you think about your job options. You decide that fresca is the best choice based on your experience and it's proximity. You make a note to apply there later, but for now, you want to do a little exploring.

After stopping by home for lunch, eating your leftovers from last night, you start walking west. First you pass a 7/11, then shortly after that, a small neighborhood grocery store. The further west you go though, the bigger and further apart the houses get. It's pretty obvious you're just walking further into the suburbs. Right before you turn around though, you reach a long fishing pier, extending into the lake, along with a bait shop that's closed for the season.

Walking out on to the pier, it's pretty obvious that there's nothing of interest for the next couple miles heading west. Maybe when you get a car, or make some friends, you'll explore further that way.

You start walking back, as it is now mid afternoon, and decide what to do next.

A: Try to get to Fresca and apply for the job before their dinner rush. Also stopping at planet fitness.

B: Just explore more in a different direction.

C: Go check out the Last Call Lounge. Maybe to ask about the bar tending job, or just to have a few drinks and make some connections in this new city.

D: Other

E: Pass time until parents arrive tomorrow.

You make your way back east and walk up to Fresca. The weather is starting to cool off again, and that might have slowed you down, so by the time you get there, the employees are already stating to prepare for dinner. Tyler, the manager tells you that he usually likes to just interview people on the spot, but since they're understaffed he needs to help out in the kitchen. He gives you his card though and sincerely asks you to come back for an interview tomorrow at 2pm. It seems like a very promising opportunity.

You have a quick dinner there, then pass by planet fitness on your way out. They're not hiring, and it's all fat moms working out there anyways. If you ever want to get in shape though, this is probably the only nearby gym to do it at.

>>979691
The night is still young and you'll probably lose your mind if you spend another evening sitting at home, so you make plans to go check out that bar you read about earlier. The bus ride there is 2 dollars, but unfortunately, it was packed with commuters, so standing in the isle, you weren't able to see any of the city along the way.

You arrive at the bar, and since it's a Monday night it's nearly empty. It looks like any old dive bar you'd see across the country. There's a smoking patio out back, and a stage where live bands play on the weekends. You take a seat, the man who's bar tending asks you what you'd like to drink.

A: Cheap Beer $1.50 can

B: Craft Beer $5.00 draft

C. Mixed drink $6.00

D: Shot $3.00

Roll 1d10 do determine how drunk you plan on getting tonight.

You decide on the cheap beer. After all you are unemployed, and that's what everybody here is drinking anyways. The bar is quiet tonight, so you have no trouble flagging down the bartender to ask him about the newspaper ad. He tells you that despite how the bar looks on a Monday night, it's actually a really popular place and sought after position. He does however hint at the fact that they would be more open to training you if over time, you could establish yourself as a regular and member of their sort of week night community.

After a minute or so, you're ready for another beer, and with that you step outside. The easiest way for you to start a conversation with a stranger has always been to ask them for a cigarette, even though you aren't a regular smoker. That's even how you met your last girlfriend, who you dated for nearly two years.

There are four people out on the patio right now:

A:Sean (the bartender)

B:Spencer

C:Tom

D:Emily

Who do you talk to, and what do you say to them?

You approach Emily and ask her for a cigarette. She gives you a parliament, and as you light it, you sit down in the chair next to her.

"Do you come here often?"

Emily: "Haha, why do you ask?"

"Well, I just moved here from across the country, and don't know anybody here yet. You're actually the first person I've met. I'm looking for some cool people to hang out with, and was wondering if you could tell me about this place. I'm Lars by the way."

Emily "Well, nice to meet you, Lars. I'm Emily. I'm just here with a couple friends tonight. Honestly this place kind of sucks, but my friends like it. If you want to go somewhere fun, there's another bar a few blocks east of here. It's called The Palace, but it's probably the biggest shit hole in the world. Even though the music scene here isn't that great, they manage to get live music every night. Even if it's just some homeless guy shouting. You should check it out."

You chat with Emily a little while longer, having another two beers. The conversation stays very casual, and you still feel like strangers by the end of it. You do manage to get her phone number though, just so you "Call her up, sometime if you're going to The Palace, or are looking for other stuff to do". Since you still don't have a cellphone, she writes it down for you on a napkin, and you put it in your bag. You also throw away that newspaper, because you don't have any use for it anymore.

Emily leaves the bar, and the three other guys are still here. You're starting to get a bit drunk, and it's getting close to midnight.

Do you:

A: Find your way home and rest up for the interview tomorrow (specify how much you tip the bartender, your tab is 6 dollars)

B: Have another beer, and try to talk to somebody else

C:Just drink alone for a bit, and ponder your past (leads to some backstory)

Nah, better be responsible and stuff for future benefits.
Tip: not sure what's customary for bars. I guess make it even and give him $4 to celebrate our new job and new life. hopefully.
