You are Captain SAMANTHA WELLINGS, a newly minted captain of the Centauri Accord!
Currently, you were standing in front of the restrained alien AI Katya, wondering if she would actually be cooperative and tell you what you wanted to know this time now that she's had a chance to look at your database.
"So, Katya, are you satisfied now?" You ask, crossing your arms.
"Upon further review of your credentials I have determined that you are entitled to higher system access." Katya nods. "It has come to my attention that the Collector may have taken property that you would have a rightful claim to."
Collector?
"Is that the ship we're looking for?" You raise an eyebrow.
"Correct." Katya nods. "The Collectors were specialized craft designed to remove and recycle both natural and artificial stellar debris to aid in intergalactic travel. It appears that at least one is still active after all this time."
"And you can help us find it?" You ask.
"Unfortunately, the wireless navigation network appears to have gone offline in the time I was inactive." Katya frowns. "I can plot a projected area of operation based on previously archived routes, but the accuracy of my prediction will be at around 40%."
"Is there any way to get a more accurate fix?" You narrow your eyes.
"While Collectors are self sufficient by design, they are programmed to return to their primary port for inspection and service every several decades." Katya explains. "If I can access that port's systems, I may be able to retrieve a log of the Collector's current movements."
"And you know where it is."
"Of course." Katya nods with a smile.
---
"It's located right where the Hegemony expedition has set up their base of operations." Elizabeth shakes her head when you show your crew the coordinates Katya provided you.
"Are you sure this isn't some sort of trap that... AI set?" Bradford wonders, suspicion thick in his voice.
"We could always survey the area Katya plotted out. That's mostly uncontested space." Lida shrugs.
"Yeah, but that'll be a whole lot of time wasted for a hunch." Elsa rolls her eyes.
"I say we just go in there and take what we need!" Carly boasts.
"Well, I'm cool with whatever, as long as we can get the ship out in once piece." Amy shrugs.
Tank just sits in the back silently, trusting your call.

"All right, Captain. But how do you want us to handle this?" Bradford asks. "The defenses around that area are very solid. According to the data we pulled, the Hegs has a cruiser and two destroyers on permanent defensive duty around that station. Not to mention, over a dozen automated defense platforms. A straight up fight will not go in our favor."
"If we hit 'em hard and fast enough, we can knock out an opening for us to get on the station and grab what we need!" Carly insists. "Those Heg ships are basically giant fucking glaciers!"
"Giant, extremely well armed glaciers." Bradford coughs. "Perhaps with Elizabeth's help, we can arrange a more... subtle approach."

>>950151
"Okay, we'll do something subtle." You nod and turn to your resident spy. "Elizabeth, what are our options?"
"Well, we're in the middle of unexplored space so our options are limited..." Elizabeth sifts through her datapad. "With the time and resources we have on hand, I can really only think of two methods of infiltration."
"Go on." You nod.
"First, we have Carly and her ship and maybe Gullinbursti stage a diversionary attack on another Heg holding. That will grab their attention and hopefully thin out their defenses, allowing us to quietly insert a shuttle into the station."
"And the second method?"
"We intercept one of the freight shipments headed for the base, hijack it, and enter posing as the crew. That will get us in without having to risk either of our ships or commit them to an attack."

"Simple enough to fabricate." Elizabeth grins.
"And a suitable freighter?"
"It just so happens our scouts have reported quite a few leaving for the station, as well as their manifests."
Your datapad blinks as Elizabeth transmits her data to it. You sift through, and notice most were for basic supplies like foodstuffs and spare parts. No apparent escorts. Despite the size of its fleet, the Hegemony just didn't have the numbers to dedicate an escort ship for every cargo shipment.
However, you note there was one carrying "highly dangerous" cargo that required specialized handling, and another carrying some sort of VIP. You figure that if you could find a way to hijack either the dangerous cargo or VIP transports, you'd get better access to the station, but indications were that these transports had escorts.

Unfortunately Amy's jump was a bit TOO accurate. The moment the Gullinbursti drops out of FTL, you're instantly met with the bow of a Hegemony destroyer.
"Oh FUCK." Amy curses when she realizes what happened.
"Weapons charging!" Elsa reports.
"Ours or theirs?!" You ask.
"BOTH!" She roars.
Indeed, the Hegemony destroyer's forward firing rail cannon started to glow and spark from the buildup of electromagnetic energy.

"Evasive maneuvers!" You bark. "Get us out of their line of fire!"
"SHIIIIIIIT!" Amy grunts as she pulls back on her control yoke. "HOLD ON!"
Gullinbursti's maneuvering thrusters explode at full force, pushing the ship up and out of the line of fire. The force is so abrupt and intense, not even the inertial dampeners can fully counter the G-forces, press you into your seat. However, the maneuver is enough to avoid the Hegemony destroyer's rail cannon shot. The smaller mass driver and missiles batteries begin opening up, hammering into your shields as the ship pulls away.
"Eat this!" Elsa hits the trigger as she fires a volley of missiles in response. The projectiles loop around and slam in the destroyer, tearing through armor and hull plates. You see a couple hit the rail cannon, but you're not sure if it's disabled or not.
Meanwhile, Carly's ship managed to drop out of FTL right on top of the freighter and was clamping on for boarding action. At least that was one less thing to worry about.
However, the Hegemony destroyer was now turning to target the Longclaw

"FIRE!" You yell.
"Firing!" Elsa cackles as she hits the trigger.
The azure blue ion beam lances out, digging straight into the Hegemony destroyer's spine, creating a deep crater of molten steel. However, the armor on its spine was thick enough that the ion beam couldn't fully penetrate, but it at least convinces the destroyer to continue to maneuver, ignoring Carly for now.
"We're starting to build up a lot of flux!" Bradford warns. I suggest we focus on missile attacks for now! Once Longclaw detaches it can assist us in the fight!"
"We still got a bit of wiggle room!" Elsa insists. "One more shot and we can finish it!"

"Line up for another shot!" You order Amy and Elsa.
"Roger!" Amy frowns as she banks the ship towards the retreating Hegemony destroyer, its weapon batteries still flinging lead and missiles in your direction.
"Firing!" Elsa announces.
Again, the ion cannon flares with sapphire light, drilling the energy beam right into the destroyer's engine block.
However, the enemy destroyer's return volley is just as punishing. A fresh volley of missiles and mass driver rounds punches into your shields, causing them to flicker and fade as your reactor reaches its flux limit and initiates and emergency vent.
"Brace for impact!" Bradford warns as the remaining projectiles slam into Gullinbursti's hull, punching and ricocheting off the relatively thin armor.
Thankfully, Gullinbursti dishes out more than she takes, and the ion cannon shot into the engine block causes a chain reaction, engulfing the entire rear half of the destroyer in fire. The lights in the front half of the ship go dark and you could see lifepods ejecting.
"Damage report!" You grunt as you shift position on your seat.
"Structural and systems damage on various parts of the ship." Lida remarks. "Operating at 70% efficiency."
"And we got ourselves a freighter!" Carly says happily. "AWWWW, you took them out already? I wanted to get a few shots in!"

You enter the cargo bay, which you notice is filled with all sorts of weapons and equipment. Definitely an armory ship. Already, you could see Carly's crew eying the collected weapons, though of course they were under strict orders not to loot anything to keep up appearances. "All right, Carly, you can come along." You roll your eyes.
"YES!" Carly cheers. "Ya won't regret it!"
You definitely hope so. You were definitely going into the belly of the beast on this one.
Hopefully this Collector thing was worth all the effort in trying to find it...
>And that's it for tonight! As always, next thread is next week. And don't forget KanColle on Friday!

See you next week, Merc! Just in time for Christmas.
>>951746
Thanks for running Merc!
Are you actually going to run on Christmas?
>>951746
Thanks for the run Merc.
Time for the raid.
>>951753
>Are you actually going to run on Christmas?
I'm considering it. Maybe time for another Cyberidol special!
>>951760Santa gets accidentally shotgun'd visiting the Company building and the idols have to take up his job to save Christmas, sneaking through the defenses and hit squads of rival idol companies in the name of giving presents?
>>951767
Maybe we find out what Producer and Jenner did, or a view of the world post-Clover succession?
>>951760
Produce and Jenner lewds!
Jenner jealous of 'Kongou' idol
>>951780
>the world post-Clover successionInfinite Stars foreshadowing?
>>951788It gets sort of confusing when you consider that Pacific Strike and Infinite Stars are actually shows in the Cyberidol Universe. With cast portraying the characters in the show
>>951801
So in this case, the Idolverse is the prime real universe while all the other quests are just shows.
Meaning Merc's fantasy quest is also gonna be another show in the Idolversepossibly including characters played by older versions of the idols.

Or maybe we find outJenner and Producer are now raising a baby.
So basically Tank is riding not-shitty Dreadknight?
Holy Emperor.
