It is difficult to see them; you have eyes, but they no longer work. The most you can do is feel around the ocean with your hands, gently wafting the currents too and fro. While there are certainly a great many of them, the ones at the bottom, those strange creatures with the long torso and two tiny fins, peak your interest. They have eyes, but cannot see, just like you. But while yours is the ensual of your pain from the world, theirs is caused by the depths in which they inhabit.

Your hands, long and thing, move through the water like silent phantoms, carefully avoiding anything that may touch it. The further you go, the colder it grows; using your fingers, you grasp hold of the sea bed and raise it into long columns to punch holes in with your fingers. Within a few hundred years these vents will help warm the water, giving the creatures that dwell here a place to live by.

Although you cannot see, you're aware that the sifting sands between your toes are just a sheet; a blanket. The true bottom lies several hundreds of feet below the sands, which hardens the further you travel. Black stones hundreds of thousands of miles wide are what make up the bottom of the ocean. This land is smooth, flat, and entirely without motion. Those creatures you saw before inhabit this place, but they do not do so with joy. It is a constant struggle, and seeing them die trying to survive swells your heart and makes you weep.

They are cold beings, born in the darkness and have never known warmth in their entire lives. With your strength you push your fingers into the sand, then allow them to move further down until they touch the black plate. Burrowing through, you pull back at the first sign of heat, then begin to slowly rise your fingers out of the sand. Slowly, very slowly, over the course of several hundreds of years in fact, many thermal vents begin to take shape. Within a thousand years you have created a cluster, which unknown at the time, had attracted plenty more then just those curious fish you took interest in.
Still, they seem to be enjoying themselves, and your heart is put at ease. You are happy.
