Eons ago, Humanity was the only race. They had unimaginable magical powers, and had no problems, or worries. For whatever ass-brained reason, they decided to wage war between themselves. Using their magical powers, they created uncountable wondrous magical artifacts, hundreds of species of terrifying war-beasts, and dozens of non-Human races to serve a purpose in the great war. The great war went on for decades, and finally, one side almost won, the losers were butt-hurt about it and unleashed an arsenal of cataclysmic, world-ending weapons, destroying Human civilization, shattering and rearranging the continents, and ruining the natural state of things with bizarre weather patterns, and unnatural radiation poisoning much of the countryside.

Ten thousand or so years of evolution later, civilization has managed to rebuild somewhat. Things are at a dark-ages technology level, though ancient magical artifacts are rarely seen, and much of the world is still wallowing in barbarism. You are the leader of a fledgling civilization, and you shall lead it as you deem fit.

> Pick the civilization's Race. Only one for now. These are the 3 Major Races, there are dozens of Minor Races but these are the most populous and influential.

> Humans

> Stubborn bastards who can keep going on for days, and refuse to give up when any sane person would have. They are the Race other Races are compared to, and their attributes are completely average, though they have a knack for magical relics, and can reliably breed with almost all Races.

> Elves

> They are lithe, pointy-eared, and beautiful. They can live for up to 300 years, have twice the agility and intelligence of a Human, and have superhuman senses. They are weak, vulnerable to diseases, and reproduce at half the Human rate. Despite rumors, male Elves are perfectly capable of growing beards, and are not neccessarily girly.

> Redguard

> They are red-skinned, huge, (8 foot tall, 600 pounds on average, huge) muscular, and durable. They live for only 40 years, have thrice the strength and durability of a Human, and heal from wounds quicker. They are resistant to diseases, and reproduce at twice the Human rate, but only 1 in 5 Redguard is a female, which brings its own issues. They have half the intelligence and agility of Humans.

> Now, pick a Government Type. This is a Medieval Post-Apocalyptic world, there isn't much to choose from right now.

> Dictatorship: You're in charge, period. What you say goes, before you die, you'll have to pick someone to inherit your position.

> Monarchy: You're mostly in charge, but your relatives also have a lot of power, and sometimes don't listen to you. Your kids will be in charge when you're dead.

> Democracy: You're kinda in charge, but the people can vote you out of office every four years if they don't like you. The people choose who will be in charge when you're dead.
>>
> What is your civilization named?

> Does your civilization focus on Military, Industry, Or Economy?

> What is one special resource your civilization has? (A species of animal, rich iron deposits, a court-wizard, etc.)

> Lastly, pick an Environment to live in.

> Plains, mostly just grass.

> Forest, mostly just trees.

> Mountains, mostly just rocks and hills.

> Desert, mostly just sand.

Where did desert come from?
>>
You are King Tom the 1st, King of Adron. You were crowned only a week ago, when you led a rebellion to overthrow a corrupt tyrant, your second cousin, infact. Adron is a small. wealthy desert Kingdom, renowned for its spices. As you recline in your Throne Room an adviser enters. A beady-eyed, trembling, serious little man, he waits for you to wave your hand. Given permission, he speaks.

"My Lord, my name is Finies the Lesser, I shall be your adviser. Recently, our economy has been thriving, due to our spice trade with the Northerners, and our people are happy that they are ruled by such a wise, and benevolent man as yourself. Unfortunately, the military is depleted from the conflict, and our industry has been harmed, as many capable craftsmen fled North. Here are some statistics." He hands you a small scroll.

> Happiness: 6
> Population: 4
> Economy: 6
> Industry: 3
> Military: 3

"A 4 is the average for a Kingdom our size, my Lord. I'm certain you can intuit what each thing means. What are your orders for this year, sire?"

> What do you tell this little man?
>>
>>893003

It came from here,

>>
>>893021
Use propaganda to convince young men to take up craftsman jobs.
>>
>>893021
build up industry and military
>>
I agree
>>
You order Finies the Lesser to see to it that pro-industrial propaganda is spread across the land, and look into increasing Adron's military might. He nods and bows while he leaves, nose almost scraping the floor.

((Rolled a 1d20 for this))
[16][15]

The propaganda program works well, and many youths join the craftsmen's guilds. The soldiers, likewise, become better equipped and trained, not quite making up for their lack of numbers but helping somewhat. Thanks to Finies the Lesser's capable stewardship, the economy stays up despite the heavy spending.

<+1 Industry>
<+.5 Military>

You are sitting in your Throne Room, reading an ancient geneological scroll, trying to sort out your family tree when Finies the Lesser bursts in, carrying a stack of letters. "My Lord, you've no wife, and unless you get one soon, your bloodline will end with You! Fortunately, several Kings and Merchant Lords have sent letters offering you their daughter's hands marriage! I've sorted through thd rubnish, and come up with the best offers. I ask that you chose one, for the sake of Adron!"

*Sigh* You suppose you *have* been putting this off for a while now.

> Choose One, (or more, if Adron practices polygamy)

> King Danuel of the Gobik City State has offered you Duen, his third daughter's hand in marriage. She's a full blooded Human, 19 years old, brown-skinned, black-haired, blue-eyed and extremely attractive. However, you wouldn't gain much politically from this marriage.

> Redguard Chief Dog-Ripper of the Eastern Mountains has offered you his daughter Little-Nose's hand in marriage. She's 12,(mid 20's by Redguard standards) a foot taller than you, extremely muscular, and, while she's pretty enough, she looks somewhat mannish. If you married Little-nose, you'd gain a military alliance with several Redguard mountain tribes, though the people might be unhappy with you.

> Obscenely wealthy Merchant Lord Niph, of the Southern City Stated has offered you his daughter Lynen's hand in marriage. She is only 15, though her 16th birthday is soon to come, you'd have to wait a year to marry her in accordance to Adron's law, she's rather plain faces and her body isn't much to talk about. If you married her, Niph will sign an extremely lucrative trade contract with Adron, opening up valuable new Southern markets, effectively doubling the Economy for two years, and is willing to throw in an ancient diamond ring of great magical power.

> Screw it, you'd rather be a bachelor.

> After sorting through marriages and politics, what do you want to do next year?
>>
Keep in mind, your actions don't have to be vague, increase <certain civ-stat> fluffier actions are more fun to write overall, and are slightly more likely to confer a benefit than vague crunchy actions.
>>
>>895409
Marry all of them and work on improving our military
>>
>>895609

Polygamy will make your dynasty less stable upon your death, and may negatively impact Adron's relations with other factions. Are you sure Adron practices polygamy?

First to 3 votes wins.
>>
>>895409
Man talk about shitty options. We either get better military allies but piss off our people or an average chick who only brings to the table a temporary economy improvement and a magic ring.

Then there is the obligatory hot chick with nothing else.

Clearly Finies is not a matchmaker. Good steward yes but clearly terrible matchmaker.

If these actually were in fact really the best options then holy shit we are better off a bachelor fucking expensive whores. No wonder we weren't interested in getting married previously goddamn. Best hold out and pray a lot. Maybe legitimize a bastard if we really can't find anyone.

Politics wise take advantage of the improved craftsmen guilds and order better equipment for our soldiers. If we can't make do with more guys might as well improve their quality. Also order some recruitment posters with the new better equipment to lure young men to enlist.
>>
>>895609
>>895894

These were the only two posts, so I guess I'll just roll a 1d2,(flip a coin) to see which gets it.

[2]

Bachelorhood it is!
>>
<YEAR 2>

After a good two days going over these letters, you've decided that while Finies is a brilliant steward, he's a horrible matchmaker. You order your court scribe to send letters of denial to each applicant, and decide your better off laying with whores for the time being. With that aside, you decide it would be prudent to improve Adron's military. Ordering the craftsguilds to provide better equipment, and spreading recruitment propaganda posters would be a good start.

[11][20]

Your equipment initiative produces mediocre results, perhaps 1 in 4 men gets a better sword and shield, but overall, there's very little change. Your recruitment posters on the other hand, touched the hearts and minds of Adron's people, and thousands flocked to enlist. Your army has nearly doubled in size, and you were forced to spend a good amount of the treasury to equip them all.

<+2 Military>
<-1 Economy>

In other news, you've heard the following,

> A horde of Orcs in the far North are carving out an Empire, and have decimated the Elven Communes, who are now enslaved or fleeing as refugees. It's unlikely, but a few of Communist Elves will probably reach your borders.

> The City State of Gobik has been razed by the Lizardmen Tribes for their policy of enslaving Lizardmen, and the dozen remaining City States have formed an alliance to exterminate the scalie menace. They have sent an envoy asking for your military aid in their campaign, and promise a fair share of the loot should you participate.

> A tribe of Mountain Ogres have been sacking border villages and hauling off the inhabitants. The abominations are 12 feet tall and weigh 1000 pounds, are completely ignorant, inbred, and possess freakish strength. Your people beseech you to do something.

> A strange, spaghetti idolizing cult has begun to spread throughout the Northern regions of Adron. They're harmless enough, but their policy of pacifism, alcoholism, and drug-abuse could prove problematic if this cult continues to spread.

> What do you do?
>>
>>896855
>Accept the elves, and make a nearby community for them to live. You have heard rumors of their weak constitution, and do not want to force sickness upon them. In return, you require that they help their new country.

>Accept the offer from the other city states to help in the campaign, but with the capitulation that the alliance assist you with the Mountain Ogres.

> Keep an eye on the cult. pacifism can work if you spin it right. Alcoholism and drug abuse? Not so much.

Hm... lets spin this...

we set up refugee camps outside of town using our newfound military and perhaps recruitment of those who want to help.

Watch the cult, and if they try to gain prominance politically or economically, dont back down if they challenge you but dont engage.

Go with a "prove it" attitude and hope it holds with no conflict, they are paccifists after all.

We should work on combining our industry with our economic output, spice. get the money machine before we do anything else.
>>
>>896855
Also, we should have a "competition" to find champions to fight the ogres.
we should idolize those who are willing to fight, and get a good morale base. as of right now we are simply armed peasents.
>>
<YEAR 3>

You conclude that it would be best to accept the pointy-eared collectivist long-lived northern refugees, and mandate that they be allowed to immigrate and form their own community, in exchange for their obeisance.

[6][4]

Only a dozen or so Elven families actually immigrate, and they form their own isolationist, self-sufficient xenophobic commune. Nothing changes overall, though their leader sent you a wonderful ornamental wood carving as a statement of their gratitude.

You send an Envoy to the City State alliance informing them that you'll provide military aid, if they'll assist you with the Mountain Ogres. A week later, your envoy returns, telling you that they enthusiastically accepted your proposal, though they insist that you help them with the Lizardmen hordes, as they are a more pressing threat than a particularly rowdy Ogre tribe. You agree and send half of your army to slay the scaly folk.

You decide to arrange a tournament to build up a force of Champions to slay the Ogres, as well as release propaganda idolizing military service.

[18][11]

The tournament was quite the spectacle, and the profits outweighed the costs. You've managed to amass a force of five hundred elite warriors, skilled with the javelin and scimitar, these nobleman Champions should do well against the Ogres. Your propaganda is less successful, though it does inspire greater effort in the men under your command

You determine that it would be prudent to combine the means of production with the economic output, and make subtle efforts to combine the Merchant Houses and Crafts Guilds.

[1]

They are incense at your conniving efforts to dismantle their sovereignty, and the majority of the Merchant Houses. along with several of the guilds, outright secede from Adron! They've hired scores of foreign mercenaries to defend themselves, and have broken your monopoly on the Spice Trade to some extent. To regain your monopoly, you'll need to put down this fledgling corporate state. For now, they aren't doing anything, but the people's loyalties are divided, and your economy is in shambles. Rumors of your supposed incompetence reach your ears, and you suppose you'll have to deal with this, sooner, rather than later.

<-2 Economy>
<-2 Happiness>
>>
[4][18] VS [7]

Almost a full year after sending your men to aid the Alliance, an exhausted, dusty messenger arrives in your throne room. He tells you of the Lizardmen, light brown with tanned scales, they have claws, tails, and almost no sense of emotion beyond predatory instinct. They feel pain and bleed like any man, but can heal from any wound, given mere days, and are able to go weeks without food or water, allowing them to field armies far larger than should be possible.

They fought well, and were cunning in their strategy. By using sabotage, trickery, and hit-and-run tactics their primitive warbands were able to avoid the Alliance's superior force and stymie their advance. Little by little, however, the Alliance whittled them down, and slowly triangulated the location of their largest warren, where they store their eggs. The Lizardmen fought with an unstoppable fanaticism, and cut down the less motivated Alliance men like chaff, many of whom broke. The campaign would've been lost, were it not for your men.

Chanting nationalist hymns to Adron and their King Tom, they turned the tide. The countless swarms of enraged Lizardmen broke like water against their ranks, and after hours of intense, bloody conflict, your men defeated the Lizard scum, and conquered their home. They accumulated a large store of stolen wealth, and an even larger supply of Lizardmen, their children, and eggs. Many of your men were slain or crippled, but for a campaign of this scale, the losses are more than acceptable. The handful of Alliance men that stayed were extremely grateful, and took only a pittance of the treasure. When Adron's people hear news of your success, their faith in you is rekindled to a degree.

<-0.5 Military>
<+1.5 Happiness>
<+1 Economy>
<+Hundreds of Lizardmen captives and eggs>

This begs the question,

> What do you do with the Lizardmen?

In addition, the weakened City States have sent envoys asking you to make the military Alliance permanent. They say they'll have a force capable of dealing with the Ogres in three years time.

Speaking of Ogres, the ignorant brutes have continued their rampage.

[6+2=8] VS [20]
(+2 because of the specialist anti-Ogre force.)

All two hundred of their tribe gathered into a massive horde, raping, pillaging, and burning their way across the countryside. You sent your thousand-man strong army to cut them down. The battle was a disaster, your men fought well, and killed almost fifty of them, but six hundred of your men were broken on the fields of war by the savage's enormous clubs, and the rest fled. The populace is beginning to panic, and many villagers are fleeing to the cities.

<-0.5 Population>
<-1.5 Military>
<The populace is beginning to panic!>
<The Ogre Tribe is emboldened by their victory!>
>>
During all of this, you decide to passively ignore the spaghetti worshipers,

[12+2=14]
(+2 because of the panicking populace.)

whose doctrine brings the people hope in these dark times! Almost a fifth of your population believe in their mad prophet's preaching and while they don't harm anyone, a good chunk of the people are refusing to work, in favor of pseudo-religious parties and drunken debauchery.

> This year went poorly, what should you do about it?
>>
Well first and foremost treachery is not acceptable. The kingd men belong to the king and none else.

We tie a noose around them. Form a blockade around the districts which control the spice now, and tax/regulate the fuck out of it. If it comes to blows, enforce your right to the land. we welcome those who surrender with opem arms in exchange for less tax and sanctions, and we welcome revolution with spears and fire.
>>
As for the lizard men, we slaughter them. they are not like people, and slavery of a war race is not... suitable. as you said, they are true savages.

make sure the populace knows little of this, and the forces involved are assured they arent civilized.
>>
we bring toms men and ours to deal with the ogres. fill them with arrows, and end the tribe with. what we can.
>>
can you show current stats? (im assuming 0 means we lose control)
>>
>>900515
Well things have really went to hell this year. Good thing we have all those veterans. First thing is first crush the spaghetti worshippers and execute their vile leader for treason against the people. Not us we gotta make this clear. Fortunately they are pacifists so they wont be too difficult to crush. Take out their leaders and the rest will fold.

After that our forces are to crush the merchant houses and guilds for rebellion. Morons cannot even see the increased profit margins if they worked together more. Talk about incompetence that shall swiftly be crushed.

Once the internal turmoil has been dealt with successfully then we make our move against the Ogres. Train up more hoplite like forces. We are gonna need their long spears and discipline to crush the ogres. Give our archers poisons and dip the heads into waste to encourage them to fester in the ogres.

If possible include some siege engines and hire some mercs.

As for the lizards sell them. Given how vicious they are as fighters and their temperment they would make...very poor slaves. As the other city states found out the hard way.

As for the city state alliance only agree to a long term alliance in exchange for more favorable trade agreements, disaster relief, and military aid. I believe these three terms aren't asking for too much and it can be mutual. If it is asking for too much then fuck em.
>>
>>900648
We are dangerously low economically, I would suggest we... restrain our zeal.

as for the cultists, you are talking about removing 1/5th of the population... just...no. we can deal with them when they challenge us. and even then, exodus is better than percecution. if they dont want to defend themselves, they dont deserve to be defended.
>>
>>900648
this but with the cult, work within it to change it more to our benefit, if not that then atleast less harmful
