You are Kurt von Schleicher, first Minister-President of the Prussian Union, Reichswehr Chief-of-Staff, and close friend of the King in Prussia, Wilhelm III of House Hohenzollern in the Year of our Lord 1921.

Much has changed since you fought in Verdun. The Germany you once knew and cherished has become a skeleton, a rotting husk. After the Treaty of Versailles, throngs of German patriots rose up in great protest of the government that would accept such terms. A long time friend of the German monarchy and General of the Weimar Reichswehr, you felt it as your duty to turn your back to the government that could only flounder, and order your men to enter Berlin and Potsdam, historical homes of the Hohenzollerns, and bring back the heir to the German Crown, Wilhelm III, and have him crowned in Berlin.

This display of defiance did not ripple well in the pond that was world affairs. Within the year, reserves of traitorous Germans, in conjunction with French and British reserves poured into Frankfurt and Stuttgart whilst you were still in Berlin. Rallying to your cause, a union of Bavarian socialists also declared the Weimar government unconstitutional and fielded their own ‘Red Army’ which overran Munich and Landshut.

That didn’t stop the French Third Army from marching to Berlin, and after days of savage shelling of the city center, forcing you out. Taking what men you had still loyal and gathering as much as you could, you retreated with the newly crowned king to Breslau, where you held your ground and repulsed five French attacks from legendary Marshal Ferdinand Foch. After a grueling six days of on-and-off combat, the Entente legitimized the Prussian Union, and ceded it lands from Silesia to Danzig.

Bavaria likes to claim it’s a separate country but in reality is just a swamp of socialists and communists with grand dreams of a workers utopia that will never be, choked by the demands of the New German Republic, a neutered dog that serves only to give France and Britain increased industrial power.

Your nostalgia is broken when someone knocks at your office door. Your friend, King Wilhelm enters, in simple yet regal garb, taking a seat at your desk. Outside, the town of Konigsberg seems relatively quiet. He lays a colored map on your desk, one of Europe today.

“My friend,” The king begins, motioning at the map, “the situation is quite dire. The Entente refuse to remove their warships from our sea lanes and I do not doubt that Austria, our old rival, would want Breslau back in their fold. Poland-Lithuania has somehow risen from the ashes of the old empire of Rus and our ally of Turkey has been overrun with socialists and revolutionaries.”

“As my Minister-President I am obligated to turn to you for council. I simply do not know what to do. Mayors and burghers come to me every day, begging for me to liberate their town from the Republic, that the new republic is forcing out the local nobles in favor of political yesmen. Factory owners write to me. The President is allowing the unions to walk over us, killing our factories. I recieve word from my Generals, every day, we do not have enough troops! Our navy is weak! They fear that the republic to the West will invade and hang them for treason!”

“I am simply at a loss. I was only a prince, but a few years ago. Now I am the King of a state set up to fail. I should have abdicated with my father! Damn you, Kurt, you lured me into this mess.” He seems to say angrily, but resorts to moping, holding his head in his hands

"The will to conquer is the first condition of victory." - Ferdinand Foch

I'll be right back with an update after I finish painting a map to edit when the need arises

“Perhaps I did, but it was not my choice to accept, Your Grace. I did not force you to come to Berlin. You did it because you felt that you should restore the empire your father lost.” You rise to your feet, placing your hands on the oak desk in front of you, creasing the map.
“You cannot restore Germany while acting like a child!” You slam your hands on the oak, gaining the attention of the King. “Do you think the Polish, the Austrians or the Czech will wait for you to solve these problems?” You press a finger against the map, indicating your lands.
“Germania is counting on you, mein König. Now, onto business.”

The king looks a bit stirred by your shouting, but retains any words he may say and watches intently as you motion around the room, gesturing with your hands.

[a.] The true threat is the Entente. The war has been over for years now, they must recede.
[b.] We are pressed thinly, if we were to secure land east of Poznan, we could breath more freely
[c.] Even with all these issues, we must show the people that the Union is strong. Assemble a legislative body

A legislative body would only slow the nation down.
>[a.] The true threat is the Entente. The war has been over for years now, they must recede.

We must get our rightful lands back before we go looking for trouble elsewhere. The entente must leave our lands

“You said the Entente was acting hostile, correct?” The king nods.

“They block our sea lanes, crippling our income.”

“Blockades are an act of war, my King. Petition to the League of Nations, perhaps they can discuss and find a way to end this nonsense.”

The king nods, slowly, seemingly going through the scenarios in his mind. “Yes, that sounds plausible… and when the trade lanes are open, we can start making money to build a real army. That Reichswehr of yours is simply a militia of young patriot boys…”

You dismiss the clear insult and nod along. “Speaking of army, Your Grace, perhaps it would be wise to begin arming our current forces with more modern weapons. The Reichswehr currently does not have enough machine guns to provide adequate support and defense, and we only have two working armored vehicles. If we are to expand, or defend ourselves, we need a more modern military force, don’t you agree?”

The king ponders the implications of your message. “I will discuss it with my other advisors.”

Your heart sinks. You wish you could have gotten a more concise king. One that would understand that Prussia was built with the strength of an army, not the ink of a pen. You bring your hands into a fist, your hands tightening.

You sit back in your chair and watch as your King leaves the office, and through the closing door you see the Lieb-Garde follow him. You return to the paperwork you were dealing with earlier and begin to think to yourself.

[a.] We need a better king… the prince-heir seems better that this mess...
[b.] Perhaps a new king was not the way to go… a legislature could be more easily swayed
[c.] I would make a better leader than that ponce. It was me who got him here.
[d.] Dispel these thoughts of treason.

>[c.] I would make a better leader than that ponce. It was me who got him here.
I do not crave the glory and valor of being in charge, just the satisfaction that my dear Prussia will be in capable hands, the hands of a man that can get things done, instead of running to his advisors

Well I don't want to overthrow the king but I want us to make sure our nation is not destroyed. So no coup

You finish signing whatever documents you have, and a devious thought crosses your mind. You are the Minister-President… you smile to yourself as things begin to fall into place in your mind. The other military leaders would certainly want a more jingoist king. You drum your fingers on the table, wondering how this will be done. According to law, the one you followed in Germany, there was a legislature, but of course, you’re the Union of Prussia. You sign another paper. You don't necessarily have to depose the king… in fact, you can keep him as a figure head.

You’ll need co-conspirators, someone you can trust. You pull out a list of patriots who escaped from the republic to the west. Sorting through them takes some time, but you end up with a small selection of those you know, who you can trust, and who you understand will help you in increasing the power of your office.

[a.] Justin Sepp: Former German Army captain, fought at the Somme and the Marne, a bright, but brash man, who you fear wouldn’t miss out on his share of glory, which is to say he might stab you in the back when all is said is done.
[b.] Philipp Haas: A politician you grew up with in your early days of military training, who found the army a bit too big for his britches. He branched out into politics and earned a local federal position, and would be a good fit for the beginnings of a conspiracy. Of course, he could have some ties back in the Republic and would not hesitate to become a national hero back home.
[c.] Gustav Vogel: Local trade magnate in Danzig. His money surely could outfit the army with weapons necessary to put down any opposition to your plans. He seems trustworthy enough, and dislikes the liberal tendencies of the King. Could be a great ally if it werent for his very Polish background, which is frowned upon in a Prussian state.

wew it took forever for that idk why

It's a dirty business, but it has to be done. Our friend Gustav will of course not be visibly attached to us, but will fund our rebel army, and any operations we will carry out in the future. In return, we could offer him some very lucrative trade deals
