You pick up the ID and look at your old employee picture.
Your dace shows your age, the dark circles under your forest green eyes, your brown hair still in it's military cut from your return from the Reserves Training.

You sigh and drop your badge. Former Army Hopeful to College Security Guard, what a joke. You stand and move to the kitchen opening the corner drawer and withdrawing a bottle of alcohol. Before you pour it however you notice that your answering machine light is blinking.

You hit the play button and begin pouring your drink.
You watch the light brown liquor dance in the crystal glass you had gotten as a wedding present, the glass lasted longer than the marriage.

As you take the first burning sip and stare at the label of the bottle you hear a voicemail that isn't bill collectors or telemarketers.

"Hello Mr.Castle, this is Sgt.Trillman with the Police Department. This is a courtesy call to let you know there was in fact a break-in close to you recently and we've been reaching out to all residents to please let us know if they spot anything suspicious. I hope you have a good night, you can reach me at.."

You hit the delete button on the machine and sit back sipping your drink feeling the warmth echo through your body. You stand up and look at your empty glass while thinking about what the offocer said.

Might be the booze talking but you feel like somebody is watching you. The idea makes your skin crawl, you go to your front door and lock it, you do the same with all your windows and the back patio doors. You grab another glass of the fire water and sigh before downing it in three mighty gulps, your throat burns and your eyes tear up and you wish it was due to the drink.
You consider getting your old man's revolver out of the safe but you forgot the code to that years ago. You're starting to stumble just a bit, but there is still more to drink.

You consider finishing the bottle but decide against it, you set it and your utility belt from work down on the kitchen counter. You head upstairs and remove your clothes besides boxers and a tshirt and drop into bed, you're asleep before you hit the pillow.

You are roused from your sleep by a loud thudding, it sounds like it's coming from the downstairs living room area.

You consider going back to bed but you remember you also have a half empty bottle waiting downstairs for you. You slide out of bed and wander downstairs groggily heading towards the front door, you walk through the kitchen on your way frabbing your bottle and uncapping it so you can drink freely.

The thudding continues on a slow repeat. A thump then a break of two seconds then a thump and so it goes.

You reach the front door and see a shadow cast by moonlight of someone on the front porch, slowly and methodically ramming the door with their shoulder. You get low and watch the figure and decide to flick on the porch light to scare him off, as the light shines brightly you see the figure's shadow stand up startled before reaching up and pulling his hat further down. It begins to move away and you breath out a slow relieved sigh, then you notice, the shadow is back rapidly approaching the door and as it comes into contact you see the door bend to the force of the blow.

The frame is damaged and the door is warped, it can't take many more hits like that before it comes down.
