It's hard to pinpoint exactly when things began, but if historians really gave a shit they would probably nail it down to somewhere around two centuries. Maybe more. That's when the seeds were sown, when business and politics began to intermingle. Big-name corporations began sponsoring national leaders. Millionaires with no true political experience were given powerful seats. Countries themselves became companies and the idea of making it out with profit became the number-one concern, not overtly as it had been in the past, but blatantly. The military privatised itself, seeing to the rise of the "New Mercenary Wave." It all culminated when the now-infamous Hazelborough Inc. saw it fit to declare independence from the United States, constructing a large artificial island on international waters and moving all of their profits where nobody but they themselves could reach them.

'Course, the competitors in charge of the US weren't just going to let all that cash out of their system just like that and with the right amount of money in the right places, Hazelborough could be charged with "treason" and "national theft" for just up and leaving like that, which justified bringing their goods back with military means. The supercorps effectively in charge of the US hired some mercs, Hazelborough and what allies they managed to court hired some mercs and all hell promptly broke loose. Once the allies of Hazel's began punching at the US, enemies of Hazel's allies saw the opportunity to get their chare of the gains to be found in war and joined in. It escalated and before we knew it, any illusion of a noncorporate government was swept away with the nastiest world war out of the three thus far.

Hazelborough's island was eventually invaded by the contractors hired by the three biggest companies that ran the US at the time, the Lunar Group, Mjolnir Arms and Renfield Cybernetics - and their allies. Hazelborough Incorporated itself was terminated, its assets liquidated and spread across the victors. Much of it was used to pay the military contractors the winning supercorps had used to fight the war in the first place. This was 87 years ago.

Now, the year is 2218. You are a "Full-Body Augment," a human that had their brain transplanted into a fully robotic body which, with a plethora of other functions, keeps that one organ that matters healthier and in better working order than that old meat sack of yours ever could. This in contrast to mere "Augments," who have parts of their bodies improved by mechanical implants, all of this being innovations spearheaded by Renfield Cybernetics. In this world ruled by blades, bullets and bank, you are part of one of the many street-level enterprises, or "gangs," that rule the global market world on the more local scale that the supercorps don't quite see. It's a violent living, but it pays in dollar and respect both and fuck if it isn't one hell of a ride.
>>
Welcome to Neon Streets Quest, an action-packed hack 'n' slash cyberpunk romp in the setting of the Global Market World. This is intended to be a part-episodic, a part-continuity story inspired heavily by the likes of Metal Gear (primarily Rising) and Shadowrun. In this world devoid of nations, run by corporate neo-feudalistic dictatorship, you play as a soldier serving one of the lower-end companies far away from the supercorps at the top of the ladder, though you are still guaranteed to belong to one of them if you dig far enough into who buys who. You will fight for your life, carve out a respected local powerhouse with your mates and probably cut down at least a thousand enemy cyborgs before you're done. All the while trying to have a life outside of that senseless violence and not bringing your friends and family into your feuds.

Neon Streets uses a customized system that while fairly intricate still emphasizes speed in a thread-based environment, designed to emulate the flashy and stylish combat often seen in the likes of Devil May Cry and Platinum Games products. Interested? Jump right in! Let's rock!

-------------------------------------------------------

It's raining. Of course it is. It's not like the world could opt to cooperate for once, right? You're resting against your bike, which thankfully offers some protection against the elements. At the cost of some of its battery life, your trusty Kazeko Thunderbolt is projecting a protective field for you. A pale blue bubble, sparking with energy and casting a faint light across the slick, wet streets. The raindrops bouncing against the hard light causes low cracks and fizzles as the field immediately evaporates the falling water upon contact. Almost rhythmical, in a way. Or at the very least, that's what you thought fifteen goddamn minutes ago, when you began listening to it.

Fucking hell, the guys were supposed to be here now, unless they ran into some trouble on the way here. You certainly hope that's not the case but shit, if they can't deal with a run-of-the-mill ambush, you're not sure how they would handle what else the night has in store.Either way, the wait was pissing you off. The field your Thunderbolt was producing made sure you weren't soaked by the time they actually got here, but that didn't stop it from being fuck off cold around. Making an exasperated sigh, you open the message Cyrus sent you for the third time tonight. Sure as shit, there it is. This was the spot, this was the time - fifteen past it, actually - and you knew damn well that it was serious, if only because your boss has found the need to actually call you by name.

A name that, for the record, was...

>[Male] Aaron / Brandon / Ray / Simon
>[Female] Alex / Grace / Sam / Trish

With a moment of focus, Cyrus' message flickers into display in front of you. Or well, rather, the red letters are projected onto your new eyes, but to you, they are simply hovering in the air a few feet in front of your face. Simple enough to read.

"Alex. Meet up with the muscle here at 20. Bring weapons."

Yep, that's certainly the same as the last time you read it. You still keep opening it though, as if expecting the message to change somehow. Maybe you misread it the first two times, or misunderstood Cyrus' stupid-ass vagueness. Anything. But no, instead the clock that you also will into being confirms that it is indeed 20:16. Just to double-check, you also bring up the satellite map and yeah, this is the spot the map data attached to the message points out for you. So where the fuck is the rest of the crew? With a grumble, you close the three goddamned screens you had opened to confirm that no, you were not in the wrong here. You were in fact freezing your ass off because someone, somewhere didn't get the meaning of punctuality.

Just as you considered sending a piece of your mind right back to those "pals" of yours, you notice a familiar car approaching. Beat-up piece of shit, an old oversized Mjolnir. You only knew one guy who'd even consider driving that thing with even some amount of pride, and that was...

...Tyler, who sure enough made himself seen not long thereafter. Leaving the hulking piece of scrap that he somehow considered a vehicle, his new arms on open display. Another thing that he somehow managed to be proud of. He was the one out of your little "squad" that couldn't afford full-body chassis and instead tried to compensate with simple arm augmentations. Bulking things in shimmering silver chrome carrying the "Stardust" logo on the shoulders. Some tacky B-brand. His blond hair, sleeveless muscle shirt, baggy jeans and cocky grin was on point however, blending together into that perfect mix of insufferable, just like you expected.

"Hey, babydoll!" Yep, his voice wasn't much better. "You been waiting for long? Shit, you know how it is, I had to pick up these other losers without a ride and traffic's what it is-"

"Oh, now you care about traffic?" You shoot right back, your annoyance clear in your voice. "After crashing that pile of junk you call a car through a fucking display window in another of our hits? Calling bullshit, Ty."

"Okay, okay." Tyler snickers a bit as he keeps approaching you. Now, he's close enough for you to smell the real excuse before he even says it. "I also popped for a smoke for like five minutes, but that's no biggie, you know, in the grand scale of things."

Okay, you know what...

Alright, you know what? No. You're not going to take this shit tonight. Your eyes meet Tyler's as you put on your best scowl. Had this been last month you would have had to look up at him, but you made sure to add a few inches to your stature when you switched to your chassis, a fact that you knew he wasn't quite used to just yet. The reaction you get when you deactivate the protective field your Thunderbolt gave you and step forward to look the smartass right in the eyes is quite satisfying. Tyler practically freezes up, clearly uncomfortable with having to glance upwards at your slightly taller frame.

"Oh, yeah, nothing at all. Let's forget for a second that we're on a goddamn hit and just stop to take a fucking smoke break. Why not, right? What could go wrong?" Your voice lowers to a faint growl. "What if someone saw me stalking around out here. Mind that I'm using someone here because I don't have a fucking clue who we're facing, Ty. Whoever's on our hitlist today, Cyrus sure as fuck didn't tell me. I guess he left that to one of you chucklefucks, huh?"

"Y-Yeah that's Z who told me, actu-" Tyler sheepishly begins, but you turn to the man stepping out of his car the second he brings him up, not even dignifying the low "Sheesh, chill..." He mutters thereafter with a response.

Zenko, one of your fellow Full-Body Augments. A brain in a mechanical chassis. This guy always weirded you out a tad, but you're mostly on chill terms. He knows what he's doing at the very least. Plus, it's rumored that he has some contacts with Kazeko back home, which is not only a corporate giant that you certainly do not want to fuck with, but also the manufacturer of your kickass hog.

The asian - he kept most of his old looks through the augmentation without any cosmetic improvements, further reinstating him as a weirdo to you - only casually glances back. "Cyrus told me." He clarifies, his voice as casual as ever.

"Gearhogs got second thoughts during a deal. Stole our goods, killed our men. Expected no repercussions."

Gearhogs, right... Old-schoolers. Aside from their augments, they run about with tech twenty-thirty years dated, but moreso out of some kind of respect for the "retro" rather than economic limitations. They've been growing in numbers lately, what with their intimidating, roaring amateur-modded cars and sheer territory-winning brutality. What they lacked in tech they made up for in aggression, numbers and underhanded tactics. You knew they were growing cocky, but disrespect this blatant? Yeah, they'd have to be knocked down a peg.

"Our part is fairly basic." A third voice adds.

"They wanted to buy a batch of Mjolnir Bombers off of us." Elphelt continues, prompting a grin from you as you see her. This chick, you could get behind. No-nonsense, but capable of cracking a joke every so often. Plus, her power-oriented chassis made her a sledgehammer for the team. Often literally, as she was a fan of Mjolnir-brand products. "The Bombers ars pretty outdated as far as Mjolnir grenade-launchers is concerned, so we assumed they wanted to haggle the price down. Y'know. Something they can't do with Mjolnir because who'd have the balls to speak up against Mjolnir?" You snort. Yeah, you wouldn't try to haggle anything with one of those sharks, that's for certain.

"Turns out what they wanted was their retro-chic bombers for free. Shot some of our guys, took the gear, got out of there. We're taking that back, along with some hogs' lives if we can manage. Y'know, to send a message."

"Z went through it all while Ty smoked." She added, as if to explain both her knowledge and Tyler's dumbfounded expression.

You nod. Makes sense thus far... In, wreck their place, take the gear, out. But three men and Tyler? There's gotta be more of you, right? You could probably manage, but...

"Alright!" You exclaim, your grin widening. No need to be so damn bitter now, you had a job to do. "Let's do it." You take a few steps back, looking at all three of your companions for the time being. Tyler, returning to his car with a clenched jaw, only gives you a nod. You get an apathetic thumbs up from Zenko and a smirk from Elphelt. You knew this group, you knew what each of them could bring to the table. Not only that, but this would be your first big chance to really try out your new body. Your chassis. "The target is that pub some of the Gearhogs run." Zenko informs plainly. You know the place, a run-down joint, but not all too bad. You went there yourself every so often when your group and the Hogs were on alright terms.

"Meet you there." You reply as you return to your Thunderbolt. One of the new conveniences of your augment body is that your vehicle can be signature-locked, noticing the wireless signal in your hand requesting access and starting up. Safe and time-saving in equal measures!

The trio gets back into Tyler's car, which revs up with a roar and hits the road soon thereafter. You're soon behind, your motorcycle easily keeping up with that hunk of junk. You can feel a slight pang of nervosity as you drive. Sure, you'd been in plenty of fights before, but not with a chassis and certainly not something like this. Unless you were Tyler (who insisted on this kind of crap) non-full augments weren't given these kinds of jobs. Far too risky.

Perhaps you should go through everything one last time. You open up your specs on one of your eyes again. Modern day vehicles basically drove themselves anyway, you didn't have to worry too much about that.

So let's see here, your chassis was...

>A versatile build, designed to be able to pull of all kinds of improvised stunts with ease.
>A fast build, optimized for quick information processing and time-efficient action.
>An armored build, sacrificing some mobility for as solid a defense as you could manage.
>A balanced build, not excelling at any of the above but remaining consistently competent in all areas.
>>

Right. You prioritized keeping your brain - the one part of your "biology" that still matters for continued survival - as safe as you possibly could. Your body is a bit bulkier than most. They wouldn't know it just by looking at you, but once can see the faint, half-an-inch deep lines where the different plates of armor meet. Where it becomes obvious that you're a bit more than human. Then of course, there was the offense specs. Fast arms and quick processing for melee combat, or targetting systems and trajectory calculators for the range...

>You focused on close combat ever since the period known as the "reinvention of the sword"
>You always had a knack for guns, no way around that
>You balanced the two

There we are... Melee focus, letting you tear people up with all of those wonderful new toys that surfaced ever since full-body augmentation truly took off. Once your one weak spot became the brain and you could just have your body repaired or replaced, people became a lot less squeamish about rushing into combat with melee weapons. Especially once the development of modern warfare showed advantages in doing so. You just think it's damned cool, but who's to say what's right and what isn't?

FINAL RESULT:
Health: 100
Energy: 100

==ATTACK==
Melee: 6
Ranged: 4

==DEFENSE==
Parry: 5
Dodge: 5

==UTILITY==
Action: 5
Style: 3
Speed: 5
Armor: 3
>>
Terms:

Health: The amount of Vital Points (VP) you start with. Damage reduces your VP, and 0 VP means you're out of comission.
Energy: Determines your starting Energy Points (EP). EP is used to perform Stunts ans use your special abilities. 0 EP means that your chassis is risking shutting down.

Melee: Your proficiency in attacking and dealing damage with melee weapons.
Ranged: Your proficiency in attacking and dealing damage with ranged weapons.

Parry: Your ability to defend yourself against melee attacks.
Dodge: Your ability to defend yourself against ranged attacks.

Action: Determines how many AP you start with every turn. AP is used to take actions, such as attacking, moving or using a special ability. Most actions typically only cost 1 AP and you may perform as many actions per turn as you have AP for.
Style: Determines your ability to perform Stunts, cool tricks and manuevers mid-combat that give you some kind of advantage.
Speed: Determines how many attacks you can string into a combo in one turn.
Armor: Your overall defenses. Directly subtracted from all damage you suffer.
>>
Then of course, there's your mods. The mods are what truly separates you from any other full-body augment. Special, well, modifications and plugins you've had made to your chassis that give you special abilities. For accessibility, you've listed your mods as "Field Mods", denoting what you'll most likely use on the field and in combat, and "Convenience Mods", denoting less important mods that you just picked because they make your life outside of combat easier.

==Pick 2 Field Mods==

Blast Processing: By overclocking your eye-to-brain information uptake and vastly increasing the speed of which you can process that information, you utilize what time you have with maximum possible efficiency, not wasting a single second. (Upon Activation: Adds 3 more Action Points to your total this turn) [Costs 15 Energy to activate.]

Camo System: Specialized nanofibers throughout your chassis' shell warps the light around you, making you effectively invisible to any light-reliant sensory system. Guess what; the human eye is one of those. (Upon Activation: Makes you undetectable by sight for one scene.) [Costs 10 Energy to activate.]

Electrical Nodes: Electric conduits scattered throughout your limbs lets you supercharge your arms and legs to deliver powerful shocks upon a successful punch or kick. (Upon Activation: All unarmed attacks this turn deal +2 Damage and gain Armor Piercing 1.) [Costs 5 Energy to activate.]

Integrated Weaponry: You had a weapon of your choice built directly into your chassis, making it a part of your body and always readily available. (Passive: Pick a limb that does not already have Integrated Weaponry. This limb now contains one weapon from the Equipment list of your choice, which can be used freely.)

[cont.]
>>
Electromagnetic Soles: A closely spaces gathering of wires throughout your lower legs can be activated to generate a magnetic field, allowing you to freely scale most of everything in this metal-coated world. (Upon Activation: Activates a magnetic charge in your legs, letting you run freely on most walls and ceilings, not to mention any other metallic surface.) [Costs 10 Energy to activate.]

Muscular Overclocker: A subsystem that lets you force more power into your nanofiber-based artificial musculature, allowing it to exert far more force than it is actually intended to, which is already bordering superhuman. This might cause stress to said musculature if you overexert it. (Upon Activation: All melee attacks this turn have a +3 Damage Modifier. Can also be used for any other extreme feats of strength.) [Costs 10 Energy to activate.]

Recovery Nanorig: A colony of state-of-the-art nanomachines have been programmed to move throughout your body, slowly but surely rebuilding any damages or abnormalities. These can either be allowed to slog on at their default pace or can be accelerated by some exertion of your will. Though a wonder of modern technology, it should be noted that these 'bots can only repair basic structural damages to your chassis, not the more serious damages you might come to sustain. (Passive: You regain 1 point of Vitals every scene. Upon Activation: You regain 5 points of Vitals right away. Note that the Nanorig cannot bring your Vitals back above the nearest multiple of 20 that they were brought below. (So not above 80, 60, 40 or 20 if your Vitals have dropped below that level.)) [Costs 10 Energy to activate.]

Thrusters: Engines and exhaust ports build into your legs can be used to leap forward with tremendous speed or add a powerful burst of force to one of your kicks. (Upon Activation: Take one movement action without AP expenditure OR add a +4 Damage Modifier to a single attack utilising your leg.) [Costs 10 Energy to activate.]

==Pick 2 Convenience Mods==

Integraded Storage: Durable lead-plated storage compartments that eject from your body at will, big enough to hide your average datapad. Or a gun. Hey man to each their own.

Integrated Tools: Nothing that can truly be used for combat, but some small basic blades, screwdrivers, cutters and other pointy bits build into your fingers to be retracted at will sure is practical all the same.

Intimacy Subsystems: Artificial nerves, hormone replicants and certain other... Extensions that give everything you could ask for to enjoy the sexual experience just as much as any non-augment.

Intoxication Simulators: Systems in your mouth and upper throat designed to recognize and gather alcoholic beverages and cigarette smoke alike, giving your brain the appropriate stimulus while ejecting the actual poison from your body. The one way for a full-body augment such as yourself to get shitfaced, but without the hangover!

Remote Security Feed: A couple of cameras set up at your place with a direct connection to your Integrated CPU, immediately alerting you if something out of the ordinary happening at home and giving you live footage of what's going on.

Remote Vehicle Network: A wireless connection to your vehicle of choice that also acts as a remote control! Acts as a hands-free way to drive and a way to get some speed your way the moment you need it, all in one.

Alright, alright, your mods seem to all be in order, that's good... Just one thing left, and that'd be your arsenal. The weapons currently strapped to that Kazeko Thunderbolt of yours. Let's see, just to double-check what you brought...
>>
Terms:
Power: The base amount of damage dealt by a weapon.
Piercing: How many points of Armor a weapon can ignore.
Shred: Shredding Armor permanently lowers an armor value by that amount.
Combo: The ability to link multiple attacks together by paying multiple AP.

==Pick 1 Melee Weapon==

Folding High-Frequency Broadsword (Power: 3, Piercing: 2)
One of the most famous pioneers of the reinvention of the sword. This vibro blade can detach into multiple of finger-long steel plates when not in use, the plates joined together by a flexible nanofiber chord. When in this state, it can be folded to fit into much smaller spaces, allowing for discrete carrying. When joined together and activated, however, this diamond-coated bringer of death can cut through steel.

Kazeko High-Frequency Sword (Power 3, Piercing 0) [Peeling: Every successful combo with this weapon Shreds one point of Armor.]
This curved, one-edged vibro blade by the Japanese Kazeko Inc. sports a notably traditional design and joined the reinvention of the sword boasting to be the "Renaissance of the Shogun." Though its fairly lightweight build makes it suboptimal for slashing through armor, its very maneuverable design allows for quick turns of the blade and practiced users of the Kazeko design are known to peel off layers of the plating they cannot straight cleave through.

The Kazeko Stunchaku (Power 1, Piercing 0) [Fast: You may make three additional attacks with this weapon at no AP cost as part of a combo; Stunning: A successful attack with this weapon has a 50% chance to make an enemy skip their next turn or, if a boss, make them lose 2 AP. This effect only has a chance of occuring once per enemy per turn.]
Another novelty of the Kazeko brand, the "Stun-Chucks" were moreso intended as a collector's item for brand loyalists than a serious product, but some fighters still managed to make it work. These two powerful stun batons are joined together by a reinforced, insulated nanofiber chord. Though the force of impact is not much to talk about, the electric shocks will still disorient most, leaving them open for further assault.

[Cont.]
>>
Mjolnir-Brand Forcehammer (Power 6, Piercing 0) [Sluggish: Every attack with this weapon costs 2 AP instead of 1, including every strike made with it in a combo.]
The Mjolnir brand is primarily known for its hypermasculine marketing, selling a man's weapons to manly men, for the real powerhouse. The Forcehammer is no exception. This huge state-of-the-art sledgehammer comes equipped with a volatile Razone-based engine at the head, generating power that is released as explosive burst of concussive force upon impact. The result can shatter boulders.

Twin High-Frequency Blades (Power: 2, Piercing: 0) [Fast: You may make three additional attacks with this weapon at no AP cost as part of a combo. These additional attacks do not count towards your Speed-imposed limit.]
These two straight, one-edged vibro blades are sold in pairs and designed to be used together. Though fairly unorthodox, the lightweight build of the engines in the grip and the thin blades make them extremely efficient in the right hands, swinging through the air at breakneck speeds. A common critique of the design is that this lightweight build makes it difficult for the weapon to push through modern armor, but a secondary weapon more up for the task doing the groundwork can easily remedy this issue.
>>
also

==Pick 1 Ranged Weapon==

Corrosive Twin Blasters (Power: 4, Piercing: 0, Rate of Fire: 2) [Shredding: Every successful hit with this weapon Shreds one point of Armor.]
Originally made to counter the increasing durability of modern armor, this short shotgun-like blaster launches a spray of superheated plasma which eats away at practically every kind of protective plating imaginable. Furthermore, the increased strength of your chassis and the minimized recoil due to the semi-solid nature of the slugs allows you to use two of these babies at once without any real concequence.

Dual Force Revolvers (Power: 2, Piercing: 3, Rate of Fire: 5)
These next-gen revolvers sport barrels containing a number of supercharged power cells. Upon pressing the trigger, the gun fires a small white-hot pellet surrounded by plasma and a powerful electric charge, which can burn straight through many different kinds of armor. Naturally, you prefer to wield two of them, as the internal targeting system of your chassis makes up for the old-school issues of doing so.

Mjolnir-Brand Handcannon [Power: 10, Piercing: 1, Rate of Fire: 1) [Explosive: Instead of making a standard attack with this weapon, you may instead choose to pay 2 AP to target up to four targets with an area of effect blast. All targets defend against this attack individually and thus count damage separately; Sluggish: Every attack with this weapon costs 2 AP instead of 1]
The Mjolnir-Brand Handcannon. The OG. The inventor of the modern explosive shell mechanism. The father of a million dick-size compensation jokes. This large, heavy rifle fires of humongous slugs that, in a manner similar to a frag grenade, explode into a large burst of shrapnel upon impact, wrecking havoc upon anyone unlucky enough to be even near this damn thing. You'd love to say you could dual-wield these, but you're having issues figuring out how to carry even one of these oversized fucking rifles.

[Cont.]
>>
Portable Kazeko ROB-5 (Power: 2, Percing: 0, Rate of Fire: 8) [Burst Fire: You may pay 3 AP to make up to this weapon's RoF in attacks at no additional cost. If you do, there's a 1/3 chance that the burst misses. You cannot perform a combo during the same turn as you fire a burst of bullets; Concealable: This weapon can be taken into normally weapons-free areas.]
The ROB-5s were Kazeko's attempt to get in on the firearm market once their part in the "Renaissance of the Shogun" was over. These lightweight machine pistols certainly got the job done, but had little to offer next to most of their competitors. That is, until they released the portable model. This version of the tried and true firearms can fold into themselves, transforming into metal boxes not much larger than two stacked matchboxes when not in use, allowing for easy concealment. Like most firearms, you'd be a fool to not carry two of these.

Scion-Brand RABC (Power: 3, Piercing: 1, Rate of Fire: 4) [Bouncing: Upon successfully hitting a target with this weapon, there's a 1/2 chance that you may hit a second enemy with the same shot, at no AP cost.]
"Bringing The Future to You", as the relatively young Scion Group's slogan claims. This baby has only been on the market for roughly four months, but the novelty is obvious. The Reflective Action Beam Cannon takes the form of an extended, heavy rifle but saves plenty of weight on the complete lack of a magazine. Instead, it fires beams of concentrated heat, burning through the target and somehow (you're not too savvy on the science) bouncing off of the surface it hit with enough remaining force to strike something else if properly angled before fading. Needless to say, the results have been chaotic, but with the right degree of foresight, you see great things in this thing's future. Much like the Mjolnir Handcannon, the RABC is too large and heavy to dual-wield.

Geez okay. After this, chargen is done. That was a doozy.
>>
Oh, i forgot one more term:

Rate of Fire: Replaces Speed when using the ranged weapon. Determines how many times that ranged weapon can be used in a combo.
